My dd has been accepted at several schools as a music therapy major. We're confused what degree is optimal...they all seem to offer different ones.

Any opinions? She will ultimately go on for at least her Master's...and she will be eligible for certification after any of the above degrees as a new grad so it may not affect her being able to work in her field.

Can't really seem to get an answer to this, thanks in advance!

There’s an overview of the degree designations here http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/561184-help-understanding-ba-vs-bfa-vs-bm.html

While I’ve seen the BA applied to virtually any music major, I’ve yet to see it applied to music therapy. The BA typically infers more liberal arts coursework than a BS or BM curriculum.

A BS would indicate a more science focused (within the music therapy curriculum), a BM normally suggests more of a music focus.

The BME typically is reserved for music education degrees.

The only way to ascertain the differences is to study and compare the degree requirements for each degree path at EACH institution where your d has been accepted. Sometimes there is more than one track within a program, allowing (more) focus on a specific aspect within the discipline. The degree requirements are normally within a school’s academic or undergrad handbook, usually found as a link off the school’s academic webpages.
