Hi guys,

I'll be attending WCAS this fall and was wondering if minoring or double majoring in computer science would be doable for someone who's never done programming before!

I know a bit of coding and really basic IT stuff, but never took any CS related courses. I still want to try in college but I've been hearing from people that it will be really hard without background experience.. What are you guys' thought? Would it be worth a try?

Are the people from whom you’re hearing this credible in any way or are they just repeating “from what I’ve heard” stories? There are two entry points into the CS curriculum: EECS 110 and EECS 111. Neither have prerequisites. Describe your background to an advisor and s/he will tell you which would provide a better starting point for you.

My only data point is my son, who is a psychology major and who had no formal coursework in programming before taking 111. He enjoyed the class and got an A.

Good luck!
