BA in Theatre, then CAP 21?

Hey everyone! I just wanted to ask your opinions on my plans for higher education.

My sophomore year in high school, I became intensely interested in musical theatre. At first, I had my heart set on earning a BFA in musical theatre from a highly ranked school (FSU, NYU, U of M, etc.) However, after a few months of discerning, I decided that I didn't have enough experience or drive to pursue a BFA. I have now decided that I want to attend Florida State (I live in FL) and double major in theatre (BA) and marketing. I then want to (hopefully) go to NYC and do the 2 year professional conservatory at CAP 21. Since FSU is known for their exceptional performing arts programs, I plan on training in voice (classical) and continue my dance training in ballet, jazz and tap in order to prepare for an intense training at CAP.

So I just want to know from you guys, do this plan sound practical? Should I got to CAP 21 or just rely on the BA in theatre?

Also, I'm a junior in high school :)
Thanks!

This is really old, but I was going through all the older pages for helpful threads. my 2 cents: definitely go for further training than a BA. I’m planning on getting my BA, double major, at a strong but less expensive school, then hopefully on to get my MFA at a prestigious school.

a BA is great in that it allows you to study other fields, but imo one should go for further training–whether at a studio, grad school, or certification program–if he or she wants to really support his or herself with acting. there are many ways to get into the business, though, so take my advice with a grain of salt!

good luck!

My neighbor’s daughter went to an urban performing arts high school in FL–her advisors suggested she pursue a BA in theater from FSU which she did. She is now a relatively successful actress in Chicago (doing stage, commercials and voice overs with a role on a TV pilot) three years after graduation. She loved the program at FSU.
