hey i'm new to this site but i was hoping i'd get some help on the min. requirements to get in to BA/MD programs like USC, Northwestern, UCSD, BU, etc. I have a 4.55 gpa (3.82 unweighted), a 2130 SAT, 4 on AP chem test (dont know the rest of the scores yet this year), i am the vice-president of hoag hospital volunteering(in charge of about 100-150 volunteers) and president of the California Scholarship Foundation at my school, and i've taken a couple of science courses at UCI (an intro to psych. class and an intro to alternative/complementary medicine class) and i participate in music and sports. I know a lot also depends on the essay written for the app. and the recommendations, but what are my chances of getting in to these schools? thanks!

Did you take the MATH2 and Chem SAT 2's?

yeah on chem sat 2 i got a 670, and i'm taking math 2 in october this year. on my sat reasoning math section i got a 740, though (750 on writing, 640 on Critical reading, and 12 on essay).

i dont think you have to take those SAT2s before you apply...do you? my school doesnt offer chem until 12th grade...am i at a disadvantage?

was pup, i think you might think retaking your SAT...a 2130 may be top at many schools, but for such intence competitive programs that accept a mere 12-20 students, the average score is about 2300. Your GPA is excellent, AP Scores are good, and EC's are good too. Have you done any research/abstracts? That's also a big plus if you have. My friend just got in to the UCSD one, and its SO competitive that she was one of 12 kids. Her EC's included Varsity Tennis, helping homeless kids, and being on Girls Scout (getting an award there)...how do you think you stack up in comparison? rememeber you also have to make an impression on the interviews...only 20 kids are selected for interviews, of which 12 are chosen...:)

good luck!

I just realized that for UCSD (one of the most competitive and best in the nation), you MUST have an SAT score of 2250 to even CONSIDER applying. They WILL NOT even send you an invitation if you dont have an SAT score of 2250 AND a GPA of 4.0 +...my advice: RETAKE THE SAT AND GET A 2250!!! :) LOL, no worries, I am in the same boat you are! Just thought youd like to know before it is too late!!! :)

coffeeicecream- you are right!
i forgot to mention that, i was so stressing about the SAT score requirement before cause i got a 1990...but now i fulfilled the requirement

waspup:
you have an ok shot b/c of your GPA but your med related ECs seem low...load up on those and you'll have an better shot. also improve that SAT!
:)

btw- from next time you should post this in the other forum topic specialy designed to accomodate everything about accelerated programs

thanks, guys! I'm not planning on retaking the sat, because if i was i would have to take it in october. which means i should have started studying at the beginning of summer to get something like a 2250 lol.

The only med-related EC i have is volunteering/vice-president of board at Hoag Hospital near where I live. Other than that I've worked at my mom's office (she's a doctor), but like i said i've taken a Complementary and Alternative Medicine class at UCI (Bio 9N) and i've gotten an A+ so far on the exams.

I pretty much know i dont have a shot at the SD program, but i'm also applying to smaller ones like stony brook and mt. sinai, which i hope i can get in to. Any other advice?

oh and the only other thing i can think of that stacks up to helping homeless kids, like your friend that got in to the SD ba/md program, is that i helped to found this club called Operation Save Darfur where we sell T-shirts to raise money and we donate it to help victims of the genocide in Darfur. We've raised about 5000 dollars so far.

hi im interested in this program as well and i was just wondering: do they value grades and test scores more or extra curriculars. because my grades and stuff are pretty good but my leadership is not as strong as was.pup's but ive done some research and stuff. do you think i still have a good chance of getting in?
