Ba/md Program

Anybody got into the BA/md progam? How selective is it?
Can you ED the program?

No, you cannot apply ED to the program. It's one of the most selective programs at GW. I think this year 700 applied. 60 get interviews with the med school. Approx. 20 students are given offers.

I know of one person from my school who applied for the program this past year.

She got into Cornell, Northwestern, UCLA (out-of-state), UC-Berkeley (out-of-state), Illinois, and Michigan (out-of-state).

She didn't even get an interview, so I'm guessing you need stats comparable to Harvard to get in.

Thanks for the info. How is the regular premed track? Are there opportunities for research as undergrad?

There are plenty of oportunities for research - you just need to find them. There's always the hospital, different departments in GW, NIH, other government agencies, etc. There is the office of fellowships or something like that which can help you apply for undergrad research grants and fellowships.

Premed, like you said, a track and not a major. There is a premed advisor which makes sure that you're taking the right courses and help you figure out timing of the MCATs and which schools to apply to.

Not many people know about the Med School Sophomore Selection program. If you go to GW (or any other participating school), you can apply during your sophomore year for a spot in the med school. More info can be found on the med school webpage.

You can't ED for it, I got in & I'm going, & trust me my stat's weren't gorgeously perfect/ harvard quality. but i did have a lot of other activies i was dedicated to, & that might have helped, they liked the whole "well rounded" aspect
