BA or BS in Economics

I'm currently enrolled in a community college and I'm not sure if I should pick a BA or BS. I know I want to major in Economics; if I pick the BA I would have to go to a public university UIC University of Illinois at Chicago, because they offer a BA in ECON. But if I want a BS I would go private via DePaul University. Does it really matter if I go to a public university? I like math but hate taking science classes, as professors are dull and make the subject a pain. That's why I don't want a BS, I don't want a BA because it's to easy the only math I would need would be pre-calculus and a statistic class. My counselor said I should go for the BA because it's more fitting as I plan on doing something in Business or Law. What's your take folks? Thank you in advanced.

Cheers,
Jesus.

The degree title does not really matter; what matters is the content of the degree in relation to what you are preparing for (employment, PhD program, etc.). You need to check the required and optional course work at each school (both major and breadth requirements) to see what you need to take at each school. Do not assume that a BS at one school requires more math and science than a BA at another school.

Law schools are mostly focused on your GPA and LSAT score for admission. MBA programs generally prefer students who have post-bachelor’s degree work experience. Neither is picky about undergraduate major.

PhD programs in economics want students with lots of math and statistics.
