BA or BS in Engineeinrg?

i have no idea why colleges have to have two different diploma for one major. (well i am a dumb senior still :D)

can anyone fill me? as well as pros and cons of each type?

thanks in advance.

p.s btw my teacher insisted me that BA is only worthy.

I've never heard of a B.A. in engineering, but anyway, a B.A. consists of less coursework than a B.S. I wouldn't recommend getting a B.A. in Engineering.

Some schools will offer a B.A. which typically is a program with less engr and some humanities thrown in.

so basically, BS is ...say... real engineering degree??

(i am looking for BME and nearly every colleges on my list has two option. um.)

BS is more rigorous..the way to go if you want to be an engineer....if you plan on applying to med school,etc....B.A. may offer more options.

my dad has a BA in engineering

but he graduated from the revelle college at UCSD, so maybe that has something to do with it

but generally you get a BS in engineering

Almost all ABET-accredited programs are B.S. I don't know about techiedork's dad, but presently UCSD only offers B.S. Engineering degrees.

BA is Bachelor in Arts where as BS is Bachelors in Science. pretty self-explanatory really...a BA is a more liberal, artsy degree.

thanks guys!

all that matters is that the program is ABET accreditted. See http://www.abet.org/accreditation.html BS vs BA doesn't matter if it is an ABET program.

However my suspicion is that many schools that offer both have an accredited BS and soften the requirements (and give up the ABET stamp) for their BA program to allow students who aren't intending to become practicing engineers but who want significant exposure to the area to take engineering classes but also have room in their schedule for other classes. Such people might be intending to start careers in technical sales or marketing, for example, or law.
