I would be curious to hear of you or your child’s experiences (if you’re a parent on CC ) of those in a BA program as opposed to a BFA & what other classes / interests you are taking or doing or how this has afforded you the opportunity to possibly double major or minor in other things etc. I would just like to hear some BA experiences or even experiences of kids not in a BFA MT specific major but maybe combining MT elements like dance or voice with theater etc. and still studying all the elements of MT but just not in a formal program.
I answered your question on the other thread and just saw this. My daughter is also minoring in dance and honors. The honors program is implemented as an interdisciplinary minor. She loves NKU. She really wants to perform and isn’t interested in other majors, but their BA program is very flexible both in the theatre side and for non-theatre courses. I know she has friends who are combining theatre and other academic majors/minors.
If you have specific questions let me know. Or I can have her jump on CC to answer any questions.
Our D graduated from Northwestern University last year. They offer a Theatre BA/BS with an MT Certificate, and after much deliberation it became her top choice, so she applied ED.
While D had many areas of academic interest, her second major area of study was European History. She has MT friends at NU who completed second majors in virtually every subject you can imagine, including friends who will take the MCAT and LSAT.
I think all of her NU friends in the MT program fully intend to be professional actors (and all who I know personally are already booking professional MT contracts) but during college did not want to focus solely on performing.
As with most working MTs, D continues to take various MT classes after college and assumes she always will, but during college she also wanted to gain a full liberal arts background.
