My son is thinking about applying to Wesleyan to add a BA theater program that does not require an audition as a safety school. His has great test scores and GPA 3.8 and a National Merit semifinalist. His college counselor recommends Wesleyan. Does anyone have a student in this program and can provide more information? Thanks.

Do not have a theatre kid at Wesleyan but did have my D there a few years ago. The theatre program put on many plays, and they have quite a good film program as well. My D had a 4.3 GPA and outstanding SATs, lots of APs and College courses taken through dual enrollment, too. She barely got in. One of her friends with similar stats did not get in, and we figured it was because D did Early Decision while the friend did Regular Decision.

Good luck!

I have always heard that Wesleyan has a great theatre and film program/scene, very strong in the arts but I second previous poster who indicated that Wesleyan can hardly be considered a safety school. My D (3.8 UW, 4.5 W, 32 ACT, all honors/AP classes, very strong ECs plus a theatre kid with arts supplement) got waitlisted last year. She was not NMSF or NMF but still pretty strong candidate with rigorous course load and good application story to tell.
