BA Theatre and Performance

Hello! HS Senior here.

I know OCU is extremely well known for their MT and Acting programs (often with some rivalry between the two) but I was wondering if anyone had any info on the BA Theatre and Performance program within the theatre department?

I love performing and MT especially but I want to be able to study abroad, possible minor, and have a more general degree as opposed to BFA style strictness. I know most theatre performers see it as a “BFA or DIE” situation, but are there valuable opportunities that can still be found within the BA?

Another Q: What is the policy audition wise? Are all shows open to anyone in the department?

Thanks!

The BA program has a 12 hour study abroad component built into its curriculum. It also allows for 33 advised hours in another subject which should give you enough hours to pursue a minor. Many of the classes are the same as what BFA acting majors will take. But the MT program is actually through the school of music. So you will not get voice and dance with this line of study. It may be possible to take voice or dance with some of your electives but then it might be difficult to get a minor too.

Anyone is eligible to audition for any show. So auditions tend to be highly competitive as you have MTs, vocal performance, acting and even dance majors auditioning for shows. But the opportunity is there. There are lots of student run productions in all 3 schools (theatre, music and dance) that you could audition for as well

I auditioned for MT and VP and was accepted into the BA Theatre. Anyone have more info? Is it worth doing and then re auditioning for a higher program?
