Babson College. worth it?

Is babson college a good school? does it have a respected name and can it get you a good job?

i hear it is very difficult. is it hard to keep a good gpa? what does the work load consist of?

Dear Duxdro,
Check with the college website. The academics section especially. Use it to know what they teach. Talk to current students and the alumni. Personally I haven’t heard much about the college. It doesn’t mean that it is bad. Do more research as I said…talk to more people who “know”. And do let me know also.

Cheers and All the Best.

I did some research…and found out…that Its HARD to get in it.

i already was accepted. i was just wondering from people who are familiar with it what it is like. is the work load as bad as they say? and does the name help as much as i think.

I have a friend who looked at it recently for her son, and was very impressed by their entrepreneur program which many undergrad B schools don’t have. Its a good school in a good location…I’d think there’d be lots of personal attention and access to internships at Babson.

I was accepted last year. I heard that while the academics and internship opportunities were generally excellent, the workload can be very intense at times.

Everyone who was accepted at Babson last year at my high school opted not to go primarily for this reason…

It’s located in Wellesley which is a very nice suburban area.

babson is really known for business/entrepreneurship. generally speaking, i don’t think it is any better or worst than business like programs at major institutions like BC, USC, etc. The only think you should be wary about is you changing your mind about business once your in college. I don’t know babson’s full range of majors, but its a very specialized school, once you’re in its like art school, if you fall out of love with “art-like” majors you’re going to have to either stick with it, or transfer out to a larger university or liberal arts college that offers traditional majors like English geography biology philosophy etc.

also, i think most people, not just you, tend to think that a school gets you a job just because you attend or graduated from that school. its a big misconception. the thing that gets you a job is you. the school might only help in terms of resources(bringing employers in, having great career resources or contacts with specific companies, etc). these resources are as useful as the time you put to using them. a person graduating from a well known school stands a lesser chance of getting hired by an employer if another person graduates from a decent or less well known school but with work/internship experience.

also just because you don’t hear babson thrown out left and right like hyp or other “name” colleges, doesn’t mean its not a good school. a lot of people don’t know of great schools like Pomona, williams amherst, yet the people that do know of them know them as being great institutions.

Suggest looking at students and princeton review web sites to get a feel for the academic and admissions selectivity rating. It has a good reputation for business.
