I have been babysitting for the same family for the past three years. Recently, the parents asked if I would be willing to join them on a day trip to a zoo which I agreed to. They have also asked me if I would be willing to accompany/chaperone(?) the children on an upcoming skiing day trip (as they recently were forced to cancel a skiing trip to Colorado and would like to make up for it I guess).

I was wondering what the protocol is for such an activity? I don't have any friends who babysit who have been asked to do this and was wondering if someone could share some similar experiences..

I require a fairly low fee. It’s $10 an hour for two children. They usually pay me a little more though… They haven’t finalized any plans for the trips so they have not mentioned how much they will pay me yet…

Awesome! So are they paying you to go skiing with their kids? Wow, that’s really cool! All-expenses paid vacation…and you get paid in cash for actually going on it! Cool :)

Haven’t been the babysitter but have had a babysitter on trips. How old are the kids? Generally the sitter/chaperone is pretty much in charge of the kids. Meal times when parents go out, getting them dressed, keeping them entertained. Just being there so mom and dad can pretty much come and go as they please. A lot depends on the family you’re sitting for but since you know them and the kids well it shouldn’t be a problem. You will pretty much have a free trip, free meals, and spare time to yourself also. Plus pay. If this trip works out well, there will probably be others.

same as gouf, i havent been a babysitter but has had them come on trips with us. and yea, he pretty much summarized it, you take care of the children so that the parents can enjoy themselves. Just make sure they’re safe, having fun and with you with all times, and you’re good to go. And yea, you usually eat lunch with them (they pay), free admission tickets and all other things like that.
