Hi, everyone!

I am back on the forum (not that I really left :))! I haven't heard anything (not a peep!) from Groton, and while I'm praying that by some stroke of luck an accepted student will move go to school in some strange country where their parents started work, I'm looking at other schools.

I have compiled the following list of day schools, just to keep looking at:

Winsor (hey, loveyoutoo!)
Commonwealth
Beaver Country Day
Concord Academy
Rivers
Cambridge School of Weston

If anyone has insight beyond what I've read from old threads, it'd be much appreciated!

Welcome back! I hope you apply to Groton again next year. Have you looked at Governor’s Academy?

I’m going to add Emma Willard to my list! @PhotographerMom I’ll look at it! :)

Emma Willard, Winsor, Commonwealth (and Groton!) are the ones I’ve put most of my thought into. They all look really good! :D

Have a look at Dana Hall as well.

I’ve looked at Dana Hall and it doesn’t seem to float my boat.

Winsor is RL for girls basically
Commonwealth: great academics but not very sporty/artsy
BCD: IF you were waitlisted from Groton, you can get in. Not great academically but sports are top of their league. Arts are good as well. DOesn’t offer much FA.
Concord: I’m going to CA next year! Trying to shift into a more athletic school since being known as arts school for many years. Great academics/many courses to choose from.
Rivers: Average academically, great in sports, not sure about arts, trek from Boston
CSW: More of an arts school, don’t know much about it otherwise.
Dana: Many of my friends that go there say that they sometimes miss not having boys around it but it has a high acceptance rate.
Govs: Didnt connect with it when I applied but it has great cmapus, academics, etc.

If you are looking at boarding consider:

(St. Paul’s: Hard to get in for anyone)
St. Marks
NMH

Day:
Milton
Nobles
BBN
basically most ISL schools

Thanks for the input! What made you decide to go to CA?

I know you said you were looking at day schools, but for boarding I would suggest:
-The Hill School( It’s going in a really good direction)

Day/Boarding(I guess depending on where you live):
-Williston North Hampton
-St.Mark’s School
-Brooks

Hi stargirl!
You should connect with GirlGeekMom… I’m not sure if I have her screen name exactly correct. Her daughter is @ Emma Willard and she is loves it there. Although my D chose another school, we visited Emma twice and were very impressed.

Hi Stargirl. So glad to see you back on. Have loved your posts and have been so impressed by your thoughtfulness and maturity. My son will be going to BS out west this year, but we and he absolutely loved the Commonwealth School. I would politely disagree with @dennroo with respect to arts. Commonwealth is a small school head to toe, but its arts are terrific and student work often wins many awards. Its academics are fantastic. There is real scholarship going on in that school, with wonderfully stimulating and robust discussions in the classrooms and a real respect for and empowerment of students. It’s a warm, supportive community. Students seem really happy to be there. The college matriculations are great and reflect some of the intellectual firepower of the school. Kids there often choose schools like U Chicago and Reed over HYP which sort of reflects the culture a bit. Hope this helps.

As for Mussels comments, I prematurely said that Commonwealth wasn’t as good in the arts. I don’t really know much about the school so I think I umped the gun on the Commonwealth analysis. I apologize if I offended anyone. I chose Concord because it was the only school that offered me enough financial aid. I really loved the tour and the boarding houses there, The arts are incredible and their athletics are up and coming. They are very good academically. I encourage you to look at their course catalog!

@Mussels and denrroo13 thanks!

@cameo I’ll PM her :)

You probably already know this, but I’ll just point out that Concord is half boarding. However, it’s a great place to be a day student. The day and boarders mix pretty seamlessly; the majority of both of my kids’ closest friends were boarders. I’ll disagree that it’s trying to shift to be a more athletic school. The school did just open a great new athletic campus, but it means that the school now has a set of athletic facilities that nicely support its existing competitive but balanced athletic mission.

Another day school to consider is BU Academy, which seems like a great place for the right student.

Another day school to consider is The Newman school, it’s an IB school in the Back Bay. Our daughter was accepted but we think will be declining. I’ve not seen it mention on CC but found it through different channels.

OHMYGOD!

I have been looking for this thread for like a month since you PMed me about it!
Finally!
Sorry, I’m just so happy I actually discovered it! Let me get my happy out:YAYAYAYYAYAYAYAYYAYAYAY!

Okay, I’m good now!

I HIGHLY suggest Winsor! As you know.
Also, I did get into BBN, which is another amazing school! I would definitely look into it.
I wrote a long post about it, let me just try to find it…
Great crew program!

I’ll go look for the BBN post now…

BBN is a private day school located in Cambridge MA. The elongated name is Buckingham Browne and Nichols.

In terms of academics it is extremely challenging, but nothing most students there cannot handle. The english and Social Studies departments are exceedingly strong in the upper school (high school). The average class size is very small at 11.6 -1. They are ranked very high academically among day schools in the US. It is a coed school, and runs from Kindergarten through 12th grade.

The arts program at BBN is wonderful!! The offer many various arts electives including drama, orchestra, chorale, film/video, and even more clubs. They have 3 shows per year, if your C is interested in performing at all! The shows are always said to be wonderful, as BBN has such a talented student body! Whatever type of art you’re interested in, BBN has it there for you!

The sports culture at BBN is becoming more competitive as time goes on. They have absolutely fantastic facilities, including an indoor rowing boat (inside a little pool), an indoor hockey rink, indoor tennis court, and more! They offer a large number of sports, and usually have multiple teams.

Here are a few links for BBN and one just to rank day and public schools that I found very useful!

I have also heard that Newton Country Day is a great girls school if you wanted to look into that? I didn’t apply, but I’ve heard it’s pretty good.

Thanks, loveyoutoo! I’ll look into them!
