Back From Bama Bound - May 27 -28

Well, first it was nice to meet several of the folks on this website. It was especially nice that the kids had some friends going in to the dorms to spend the first night.

I have to tell you all we had the most WONDERFUL time! It was completely informing. There were several, and I mean several, people who worked with our son on his schedule for fall. The hospitality was amazing…that’s the southern hospitality you always hear about :)! The siblings had a blast and are now all friends (love that Facebook!) and forget the incoming freshmen…ahhhhh, the places the siblings went!!! OMG, places we and probably our incoming freshmen will NEVER see!! That’s a secret though!

I’ve never met so many wonderful and friendly people. Every single one of them. I honest to goodness feel like I could call ANY of them and say “hey, I’m coming for the weekend, do you have a place I can stay”, LOL, maybe they didn’t want it to go THAT far! I even got a hug from one of them…the ones that attended know who that was! I truly feel like they DO care very much for our children. They care about their well-being, they care that they will have a great expereince at Bama, and they care about the footprint they will leave on this earth.

My son is SO happy. My gut is warm…really warm. So I’m thinking, what about all those poor people that chose another college…poor things!

Keep on rolling tide, you not only roll, you rock…ROLL TIDE ROLL !!!

^^^Marvelous. Thanks for the report.

I got to finally meet Jami Gates in person. :)

She is sooo cute! and super sweet. No wonder she’s been such a big help to many of you. I thanked her for all that she does setting up personal tours and such. :)

No way, mom! What took you so long ? :)

We met Jami during our visit to Bama in March and she’s been extraordinarily helpful to us every step of the way. BTW, add young to cute and super sweet, but don’t let that concern you. She knows what she’s doing and gets things done.

wonderbreadmom: we are headed to Bama Bound on Monday and D will be staying in the dorm for the first (extra) night. Can you give us insight on what time and where she goes for the extra night check-in? Everything we have received just talks about being at the Ferguson at 7:30 on Tuesday morning.

mom2collegekids: I know it has been posted many times, but where do we go on Mybama to look at course times, etc. We found the honors course times on the honors website, but can’t seem to find them for the rest of the classes.

^^^ When you log on to MyBama, there should be a window on the “Home” tab that says “Currently on MyBama.” One of the options should be, “Look up Classes.” Click on that, and then you should come to page that has a drop down list that says “Search by Term.” Choose Fall 2010, which will take you the page your looking for.

Alternatively, you can go to the “Student” tab >> “Registration Tools” window >> “Look Up Classes”

Thanks, found it!

I asked my son where he went for the “early night” check in and he did it at the “front desk” in Ridgecrest South…that was last year, but I think it’s the same.

He checked in at Ridgecrest (I think South). If different I will post again when he returns home. They can check in between, I believe, 7:30 and 10:00 although I remember them being told they could check in later than that that someone would be there.

They had a BLAST, so tell her to get ready!

FYI…someone is at the Ridgecrest South desk 24 hours a day.

When I called I was told they could check in after 5:00 at Ridgecrest South but my son and two others arrived from the airport on a shuttle shortly after 3:00 and were able to check in then. He thinks they were the first to arrive.

Thanks for advising on early check in - D will be checking in next Wednesday night for Thursday Bama bound. Really getting excited after hearing about your experiences!

Thanks again!

What can I say except that the CC crowd was just a great in person, helpful , kind, fun and working hard to see our kids get launched in the right direction and the right way - as you would hope. A couple of us kept saying “we’re so relieved we’re normal!” :)

And I especially loved the parent who, upon hearing M2CK was coming said “Oh, my! Its rather like meeting the Pope!”… a feeling we all shared to a certain extent.

But: her feet are on the ground and her blood runs crimson! I really think the success of our kids is in her heart, too!

I hope everyone going has just as wonderful a BB experience as we did!

I loved meeting everyone! I was so happy that my son had a birthday party to attend in Tuscaloosa on Thursday and let me tag along for the ride. :)
