Feel free to ask! :]

Did you succomb to the hype that is the cluster-**** program?

Seriously OP, major and schedule…

I chose not to do a cluster because honestly, I didn’t find any of them interesting enough to take the whole year. I’d rather fulfill my GE taking different courses.

I’m a biology major. English 3, Philosophy 8, and Math 4a. Chem 14a was full by the time I signed up for classes as was most of the other science courses. Just a tip, plan your classes ahead of time while you’re at home. I didn’t do this and I was really stressed out on the 2nd day. I literally planned my classes for 3-4 hours in my dorm while everyone else was probably attending workshops and exploring the campus.

When you went on your tour, was there a game of ultimate frisbee going on in Wilson Plaza? Did you walk around it or straight through it?

Lol, what an interesting question. I didn’t see a game of ultimate frisbee going on or maybe I was too exhausted to care.

Was it common for people to not get the classes they needed then? I want to take chem14a and math3a, and now I am nervous they will be full…

Are we allowed to use our own laptops, to register for classes?

@dinonuggetz I think there were enough spaces for math. Didn’t hear many people complain about not getting it and not many people need math anyways. What your new student adviser will do is draw numbers and whoever usually your orientation group will have 8 people so that’s the order of how you guys are going to sign up for classes. I got 6 so that’s probably why I didn’t get chem 14a.

@hcodude no, we’re not allowed to use our own laptops. However, your new student adviser will allow two people to sign up for classes at a time using her/his computers. Everyone else has to put away their cell phones/laptops when it’s time to sign up for classes.

Btw, all incoming freshmen are only allowed to take 3 classes.

About what time was this?

You can sign up for a 4th class after you get home from Orientation. Of course some classes open up specifically for certain Orientation sessions, but you can figure out when that’s going to happen (like 9AM on the 3rd day of each Orientation session?) and snipe classes while sitting at home.

The tour was yesterday around 3-5 or something.

So you can still take mote than three without anyone impeding you?!

Sent from my R800at using CC

I’m not sure if that’s true. My NSA didn’t tell me we could add 1 more course. Not sure where @thiscouldbeheavn got that info from but it’s possible.

You are welcome to change your classes as you like after your orientation session, and before the deadlines to your study list. I don’t see any reason why the enrollment system would prevent you from taking more than three classes. I think it’s more like the orientation counselors watching from behind your shoulders forcing you to enroll in three, and only three, classes.

Also, are they calling orientation counselors new students advisors now?

Yeah, I’m pretty sure that once you go through Orientation you basically have the same enrollment status as any returning student, and so you can make whatever change you want to your class schedule up through 2nd week of Fall.

URSA probably lacks the technological sophistication to give them more control than that, lol.

I remember my NSA adviser making sure people only enrolled in 3 during that time. But FOR SURE, permitting space in w/e class you want you can take that 4th class. You can even take 5, if you don’t exceed your limit, 19 for college of letters and sciences, 21 for school of engineering. You can enroll in more classes after your orientation session in September or even when fall quarter begins. Google the schedule.

@phospholipase, yeah, they’re calling them NSA now.

Yeah, my NSA was looking over my shoulder and double checking to make sure I only enrolled in 3 courses. Wouldn’t even let me get on the waitlist =(

Yea that’s usually the case, the Orientation Counselors (or NSAs now) want to make sure there are room for classes for the later Orientation sessions, so they only make sure you take 3 classes.
But of course you can always just enroll in more classes (or switch classes around) once you get home. They have no control over that. Just don’t exceed the unit limit.

Hey so after we enroll at orientation, can we add a class at any time? Like does your URSA allow u to add a class right now for example? Or will it only be open during the next orientation? Cos I really wanna take 4 classes haha.

On a less important note, are there like a lot of parties during orientation? I saw on the fb group there were only frat parties, but can u please elaborate and tell me how it all went down? Haha thanks so much!

Oh ALSO (sorry to bother u so much btw) is schedule by day roughly:
Day 1- lectures and stuff
Day 2 - choose classes by yourself of you have to and workshops
Day 3 - enroll into classes in the morning?

If class enrollment opens from 9am, is your guide person available straight up from 9? As u can tell in pretty worried about getting my classes lol sorry :P
