back to back classes and discussion sessions??????

I will be a freshman in this upcoming fall.
1. If I have an option to choose between Asian American Studies 20A (OMI, M) and Music 26AC (Roberts, T) in Phase II, which one would you recommend me to take? Which one is easier? ( I choose Math 1A and Econ 1 in phase I)

I also have a question regarding to the back to back scheduling. Is it a good idea to do that? Like you don’t have time to preview the next class? I mean if I take Asian American Studies 20A, I would have its lecture back to back to Econ 1 lecture. AAS20A is held in Dwinelle while Econ 1 is held in Wheeler. (would this also means that i would have 2 back to back midterms?)

is back to back discussion course painful? (i mean economics 1 and math 1A discussion courses). like I found out that one of the econ 1 discussion is at MW 4-5 pm and one of the math 1A discussion is at MWF5-6 pm and they happen to be in the same room, which is 5 Evan!) Is it a good idea to take these two or take some others? like will the tests or quizzes will be given in the discussion?

any easy 1 unit courses without finals to recommend?

p.s. Econ and math grades are really important since i am an intended Econ major

I think music26a, if its like music27, would be easier especially if you have a music background.

You will find yourself taking a back-to-back class at least once in your whole 4 years at Berkeley, whether its section then lecture, lecture then lecture, or section then section. Distance wise, it will be no trouble. Its like a 3 minutes walk from wheeler to dwinelle. Its hard to say whether you’ll also have back-to-back classes because it depends on your professors’ scheduling. I would say its not very likely, but its a possibility.

Only quizzes (likely to be the case for math, but varies for economic courses) will be given during section. Its not really a big deal but it is up to you.

Poli sci 179 (pass/no pass class, there is a final, but its multiple choice and last semester, you only needed ~66% to pass) or a decal. (google decal if you’d like more info)

If you are worried about the back-to-backers, try finding a section at a different time if possible. However, from my experience, I actually like classes that are back-to-back so I don’t have to find ways to kill the time inbetween them.

hope that helped!

[Class starts 10 minutes after the nominal start time.](http://resource.berkeley.edu/r_html/402telebears.html)

Each class has its own test schedule. That means you could have back to back tests if both chose the same day, but they do not always choose the same day.

If you are the type of student who wants to ask additional questions of the instructor after class, then having another class right after prevents you from doing that.

Dwinelle and Wheeler are close to each other. Of course, if the classes are in the same room, you won’t be late. However, you want to be a good runner if you schedule a class in Wurster right after a class in Tolman.

1 unit courses, no finals, easy? DeCal, baby, Decal.
