How much will it suck to take 5 classes, with an hour break in between the first two, but after that, all 4 back-to-back. Two 3-credit classes and two 4-credits, so 7 hours with no break...

That would feel so very much like middle school to me.

Couldn't do it.

But if you think you can handle it then obviously it wouldn't be bad.

One semester I had I had four classes back to back on Monday and Wednesday.

... I loved my schedule.

9:05, 10:10, 11:15, 12:20 on MW then on Tues I had one class at 1 and Friday I had a 9:05 and the 10:10.

It was excellent and I loved how I had huge blocks of free time. It can be nice to have breaks but I'm the type of person who will think "I only have an hour... that's not enough time to get anything done so I'll just sit here and waste my time with my friends."

Sounds pretty close to high school type of schedule - just plan on having a snack in your pocket to wake yourself up - and go for it.

Is this schedule for EVERY day??

No, just Tuesdays and Thursdays. I wouldn't have classes on any other days, which will allow me to work more hours...

My classes would be double that length, though... :/ Was it hard to focus by the time you got to your 4th class?

I have 2 3-hour classes back-to-back right now, it kind of sucks but it's doable. The main problem for me isn't having to keep concentrating on them, but the fact that I have to miss meals and I always end up really hungry. So you'd want to bring snacks or eat right beforehand or something. I usually try to schedule my classes in blocks because I find that if a break is shorter than about 3-4 hours, I end up not doing anything with the free time. It's more useful in larger chunks.

If I could only do classes 2 days a week and have more time off - I would certainly go for it LOL - but that is just me

I have 5 back to back classes with an hour for lunch on Mon, Wed, and Fri. But Tues/Thurs are off completely, so I think it will work out.

That also (probably) means that all of your homework is going to be due on those days. Whether it's a lot of reading or tons of problem sets, you're going to have to do a lot of your homework before the night before it's due if you want to sleep Monday night.

That many hours in one day is probably overdoing it. A real problem you may face is what happens when all those classes end up having exams the same day, but having rest of week to study could help.

Note, if you are an incoming freshman trying to come up with a schedule for fall classes and have not yet registered, you may be assuming far too much -- that you will actually be able to get all those courses you want at the times you want. For freshman that is always highly questionable at vast majority of universities.

There's also a registration hold on me until far after everyone has been registering for days due to circumstances beyond my control... I don't have incoming freshman status as I'm taking a class there right now for the summer. I anticipate being on the waitlist for all of these classes, really... but it's community college and a lot of people drop the classes, haha.

I know I can handle that... plus I don't sleep half the time anyway. I'm just worried about how well I'll be able to focus and take notes when I get to that last class...

Most exams I have at Rice are take home, so tests on the same day won't happen at all. Homework is due weekly anyways, and I'm am not one of those who does stuff the night before, so I will love this schedule.

Also, I am a sophomore, so I have a year's experience already.

Last semester on Tuesdays I had class from 10 in the morning until 4 or 5-ish in the afternoon (b/c of a science lab), with 15 minute breaks in between classes. I don't recommend this to anyone, it was hell on earth. However, it was worth it in the end, I got an A in all of the classes I took on that day.

I find that while straight classes in a row is boring, it only becomes living hell when you throw labs in there.
