I've been building my schedule for Orientation, and it seems that with the classes I want (PHIL-140g, its corresponding WRIT-140, and BISC-121Lg), I'll have back-to-back-to-back lectures on Monday and Wednesday. There will only be ten minutes between the classes. I'd like to know: is it physically possible to get from classroom to classroom for these classes in 10 minutes? And if so, will this 3-classes-in-a-row thing be even worth taking, or is it more like a schedule from hell?

Yeah, its not bad at all. You’ll probably actually have time to spare. If you have a bike, it’ll be even easier.

I personally prefer back to back to back, its really up to ypu. Try it and see how you like it. I find it frees up time later because I’d waste the time in between classes.

Ah, thanks for the input! I should be fine with this schedule then As long as I can make it from building to building!

hey so im building my schedule right now,and i want to take soci 150gm (cat IV) along with my writ-140 class. but, there are no more discussion classes for writ-140 linked with soci 150gm. does that mean i can’t take soci150, or will they open up more slots for writ140 on orientation? (confusing i know)

Yes, more spots will be opened.

I would say that back to back classes are the way to go. What are you going to get done in an hour anyways? Eat lunch, that’s about it.

If you’re quick, you can walk anywhere on campus in ten minutes. If you’ve got a bike or a board, it’s even easier. Just don’t crash into anyone.

Wow, I’ve never thought of back-to-back classes in such a complimentary manner. Sounds good, then!
If they’re say, lab classes, though, have you guys ever felt overwhelmed when both back-to-back classes gave quizzes/tests?

Not a science major (thus no lab classes), so can’t give an opinion on that. But also I’d need to know how long they are. Like many of the business classes I’ve taken are 2 hours long. Truthfully, I think 6 hours of classes in a row would be a bit much. But that’s just my personal opinion. But back-to-back classes are definitely nice.

I heard that classes end 10 minutes early. Is this true?

Well it depends on what you mean by “early”. Classes are registered, for example, from 8am to 9:50am. So yes, it’s 10 mins early before 10, but they won’t end at 9:40am.

occasionally a professor ends a couple minutes early, but it is far more frequent for a professor to run a few minutes late.

in that case, if you have another class, it’s perfectly fine to get up an leave, or if the professor is saying something important, to pipe up and say “excuse me professor, it’s 9:52”

Do classes normally start promptly at the time scheduled, or do the professors run late?

Depends on the professor, but generally, most will start on time.

is it okay to show up just a bit late to classes? obviously not on a day to day basis, but once in a while? what about labs?

How late is a bit late? Five minutes is ok, but if its 25 minutes for a 50 min class, you might as not go at all imo. It depends what class and what teacher, some care while some don’t. You’ll have to check the syllabus to see if they care. You’re just a number in biology and chemistry, they couldn’t care less if you went to lecture at all. Being late to bio lab is a nono, you have a quiz right at the beginning and you will soon learn that every little point matters. There’s no quiz in chem lab, but if you’re late, you’ll miss your TA’s explanation of how to do the experiment.

Much depends on the class & how big/small it is. If it’s a very small class, you are noticed when you arrive & depart. Some classes are a dozen or fewer students and yes, it will be obvious when you arrive late. Some profs care & others really don’t. Big lectures generally don’t count attendance, but it varies.

thanks
wow, is there a quiz at the beginning of every bio lab?

Is there a quiz at the beginning of each BISC 102 Lxg lab?

Well, one before every experiment, so not every week. The syllabus says 10 quizzes and I see they also added a presentation to 120, there wasn’t one last year.

No, from the looks of last semester’s syllabus.
