I know this cc forum deals mostly in the "elite" BS's, but I am thinking about boarding for 9th grade next year. I know some schools will accept rolling applications. I'll give you some background and maybe you can provide some suggested schools.

Please assume full pay, although that will be tight. I am in 8th grade, male, involved in football, lacrosse, basketball and some wrestling. My Rec's should be preety good as my teachers seem to like me and my work. I'm no genius but put mostly A's in somewhat difficult subjects, with a B here and there. My ssat score was 81st percentile. I write well, and I am very relaxed speaking at interviews. I connect easily with people.

I'd like to apply right now for this coming September, but would wait until the following year to apply as a sophmore.

I'd like to stay within a 2 hours drive of Princeton New Jersey. I've elinated Lawrenceville as too stuffy for me, and I'm not thrilled with the Peddie campus, especially with athletic construction that'not expected to be complete for a year or more.

The George School looks interesting, but the facilities look very old and in need of updating.

I've heard of Hun, Pennington and Perkiomen but don't know much about them, except that dress is formal. I'd rather go casual, but formal is not a deal breaker.

Please provide information about any of these schools, or any others that may be a possibility.

George School definitely has a laid back feeling to it, but probably doesn't have rolling admissions. You could also look at Westtown School in Westtown, PA.

A friend of mine attended Solebury School in New Hope, PA. It's a small school with a small boarding percentage, but it has a nice atmosphere.

St Andrew's in Middletown Delaware is another option for next year. No rolling admission though.

Sounds like NMH would be a great choice for you....and the wrestling team is awesome. Very invested coach. It is casual, not stuffy, very supportive teachers. The campus is beautiful. The academics are rigorous but the do not focus on being able to brag about top SSAT scores for admitted students. They take a very holistic approach. They are no longer listed as "rolling" on BSR, but they might still have spots for next year. Check out their website and give them a call! (I have one son who graduated NMH in 2003 and a current student...any questions, feel free to ask).

Don't restrict your search to schools with "rolling" admissions only. Given the economy, there is a chance that lots of schools will have open spots. My son applied late last April to 4 schools and was accepted at 3 (wl at one, but all but guaranteed a spot there too). I think all 4 did not have rolling admissions.

George School has rolling admission. I have just asked them recently. They are more than welcome you to apply now. Actually, most of schools still accept rolling admission though they don't notify on boardingschoolreview or website. Ask them!

Yesterday I visited Mercersburg for the first time with my son who has it on his short list. It probably offers almost everything you're looking for in a school (although I'm not certain about the rolling admission criteria). Fantastic place... The school has invested heavily in its campus, faculty and students during the past 10 years and it shows. I'd definitely recommend having a look.

Whats your rationale for going to a BS? Forgive the blatancy, but if money would be tight, why pay for something that is not the top? There are different BS's and different students, and you can find a fit for pretty much most, but with your stats, you can certainly go for top. Given your geographic limitation, Lawrenceville would be it, but dont discount Peddie, construction will be over for your last two years.

Mercersburg has rolling admission. Ask them for sure. And students who apply rolling will be considered in the same pool as the waitlisted ones.

Footballguy,
To get back to the bread and butter of your thread, if you are full pay ALL SCHOOLS EXCEPT THE TOP FEW WILL READ YOUR APPLICATION ON A ROLLING BASIS. This is a unique year and schools are scrambling for full pays. Good luck.
