backdoor way to get into UCSB

last bump of the season. Best of luck to everyone!

@mikemac Apparently they received over 90 thousand total and 77 thousand for freshmen. It’s pretty crazy that soon they’ll be over to say over 100k students applied.

Hey OlympicLady and MikeMac, Im a student from 2016. This year every UC recieved a record number of applicants. UCLA and UCSD recieved over 100k applications from first year undergrads alone. More than double what the application rates were at the time of this post. My point is that a college education is now commonplace and it has becoming incredibly competitive to get into good four year universities, both academically and financially considering the cost of living and attending a UC is now over $30k. I was personally denied from SB and SD despite having a 4.2 gpa and a 1800 SAT, scores that exceed their usual standards and would have more likely than not been accepted in 2010. I am in the top tenth of my class and my classmates, with similar grades, even those in the top 5% of my class, are considering going to a community college. My classmates and I have recently found out about SBCC and i feel as though your generalization about CC students is entirely incorrect. the current cost of attending SBCC is a blessing compared to the tuitions that other schools ask of us, some being higher than $50k a year. Although it is very much underwhelming to consider a CC, despite being a top student and having pushed every fiber of your being for the last 12 years, many of these top students are very much enrolling in CCs, whether its for fiscal reason or the TAG program. Frankly, i feel that the generalization of CC students as lazy for having not enrolled at a four year is more elitist than not. That being said this message is for any student alike who may have stumbled upon this thread like I have. If you are a good student but the competition has simply cut you out, i would very much consider a CC. It will take your heart and soul to relegate these years of hard work to attend one, but being a top student you also know that a 3.2 is nothing. Following the TAG program will be no more difficult than our High School schedules consisting of numerous AP classes. Should you meet the requirements, and theres no academic reason you wont, you are GUARANTEED admission into the UC you apply to. And even if this OlympicLady is right, that CCs only have lazy no good kids, then you know what? less competition.
