Yes. Federal privacy law in the US requires your permission to see your transcript and/or your GPA. The school can acknowledge that you graduated and your degree without your permission, though.

The company performing the background check will contact you and ask for you everything they need. Don’t worry about doing anything until they ask for it.

BanjoHitter is far more experienced then me and a very good poster; but last summer for my internship, a company did a background check. The education check was just verification that I was a student and scheduled to graduate a certain date. The company asked for transcripts about a week or two before I started.

Depending on the company, there may also be credit checks or other checks involved.

On the drug test, be careful to avoid things that may cause false positives like poppy seed rolls. Or unintended true positives like brownies of unknown origin or secondhand smoke.

Standard stuff. When they ask for it sign the release form and let them do what they need to do. However, having been in a situation where one person told me they would need a copy of my dipolma and another person told me no we don’t need that. I would get a copy of your transcript and keep it handy just in case somebody changes their mind at the last minute. Then even if they want the offical transcript in a sealed envelope they should be willing to take a copy and order an original to arrive later and not interfer with your start date. (It is a good thing I had that dipolma in my brief case that day.)

Is what ucb posted true about drug tests? I have never done any illegal drugs in my life but that scares me a bit because my roommates all smoke.
