Background dillema????

My great grandfather was from spain, he married an indian women and moved to India, and he chose to adapt sikhism as his religiion.
Now here I am confused about whether I should put Asian or White or something else as my background .

I have heard that asian minorities don't get so much help.
The problem is that if I have to change my background , I'll probably have to tell colleges to do that .? It might seem like fake or something.

Help is appreciated.

White and Asian, select both. Done.

Should I send them this correction ???
I have heard that Asians have problems in some colleges ?

So only WHITE might be the better option?

Leave whatever you put.
You identify with being Sikh, so Asian, it is.
There is no better option.
If you get rejected, hopefully, it won’t be because of what you put down for race.

I agree with Balto. This is truly not an issue. If you were Native American and forgot to mention it, I’d say go ahead. But in your situation, let it be.

I read your other thread, and someone else brought up a good point. Since your grandfather is from Spain, you qualify as Hispanic, a URM. This is a huge advantage compared to Asian, which is an ORM (over-represented), and yes, Asians are held to a higher standard in college admissions. It’s too bad you didn’t figure this out sooner. If I were you, I would definitely notify the colleges I applied to, along with proof (perhaps a picture of your great-grandfather and an essay about him / being Hispanic). Since you’re so far removed from your Hispanic background, it might not help much. But who knows? Being a URM is definitely a hook at almost every college. Notifying colleges could be to your benefit or have no effect; you have nothing to lose.

Gee !! Thanks…

This is total misinformation about how Hispanic status is determined for college admissions purposes. For how it actually works, go to the first post of the Definition sticky thread on the Hispanic Students subforum (under Specialty Topics).

Closing this thread before it turns into another discussion of race/ethnicity. Further comments about race/ethnicity should be posted on the Race sticky thread on this forum. OP, go to the Hispanic Students forum for an understanding of criteria necessary to mark Hispanic.

p.s. if you think that marking Hispanic will help you get into the schools you listed on other threads with your stats, you should read this thread:
