background of adcom

Who and how many are the people who are the members of admission-committee for mba applications, people who read the essays, make the decision?

Does anyone know if it has to be unanimous decision for acceptance among ad com members of majority?

Also seems to me that may be a humanities major admin director may not be the best person to evaluate the accomplishments in a technical or scientific field. Anyone knows how are applications matched with the background of adcom members?

I have met a couple people who were adcoms at top MBA programs, and from what they have told me the process is somewhat arbitrary and not as sophisticated as you might be supposing. One even described the process as “hypocritical.” They were just normal alums of their respective MBA programs. They might have no basis at all for evaluating accomplishments in technical or scientific fields. Often, their best criterion is simply what “sounds interesting.” Work that sounds like it was done for a good cause is given disproportionate weight, even if the applicant intends to do nothing but schmooze investment bankers upon their acceptance. A specific job might be viewed completely differently depending on how an applicant describes it. Generally speaking, unique, selfless, and “leadership” are criteria adcoms look for; much like what any other person would look for on an application. Adcoms are just average people.
