I have a messenger bag that I found at a flea market in Amsterdam for 5 euros. It's green and yellow and has flowers and butterflies on it. I guess it's kind of ridiculous. meh.

how safe is it to leave your laptop in your room, if you aren't planning to bring it to class? Do most people use laptop locks (are the desks at MIT workable for locks)?

If you lock your door, you don't need to worry about any of your stuff getting stolen.

Theft in the dorms is pretty rare, and in my experience has mostly been confined to bizarre rashes of crime in which (non-MIT) people steal frozen food from the kitchens.

Actually, I never used to lock my door sophomore/junior years, and nothing bad ever happened. But you should still probably lock your room door.
