<p>see..the reason I ask this backpack question is because practically no one at my cc wore backpacks. always large tote purses or just carried their books...backpacks were defintely considered dorky...but I don't know if it's just because I went to cc in orange county..</p>

<p>Community college...in Orange County...You'll soon be going to one of the highest ranked universities in the world, a center of academia, prestige and dorkiness. Bring a backpack FFS.</p>

<p>Most students bring backpacks to class. It you find it useful, bring one. If you prefer not to, then don't. It really depends on you. Nobody will care either way. I don't think there are strong fashion sentiments at Berkeley in general (students tend to be very open-minded here--just don't wear a cape to class, like one kid did...that was weird).</p>

<p>I am taking class @ G-dub and people carry backpacks. From what I know, people still carry stuff in bagpack/bookpacks/whatever at OCC. If you have a lot of **** to carry from your car to class, you need some sort of bag no matter what. I doubt it matters if it's a Vons plastic bag or a backpack, as long as it does its job of carrying stuff from place A to place B. (Ok, I am stretching a bit on the plastic bag, but I hope you get the point. Plastic bag really, really blows in carrying laptops.)</p>
<p>Hey, I'm from HB too! I'm a freshman but I took some summer classes at OCC and GWC. <p>If you bring a backpack, no one will really care or notice. You should do what is most comfortable and convenient for you.</p>
<p>Generally speaking, Berkeley is much more of an intellectual place than OC and people are less hung up on looks and wardrobes. Don't worry about not looking cool or fitting in.</p>

<p>light blue is cute! it might get dirty too easily though.
black gets dusty fast as well. it shows wear.
navy might be a little too common, but if you put on some unique keychains you should be fine with navy.
i'd go for the light blue if you're willing to run it through the washing machine once in a while. that's always a hassle for me and my pastel backpack. navy sounds like your best bet.</p>
