you really don't ever need a textbook in lectures... i don't know WHY so many people bring them. that's not what they're for. all you really need is your notebooks, pens/pencils, calculator (depending on class), and personal items (ipod, paperback novel, snacks, etc).

high school backpacks were only heavy because of the infinite load of textbooks we had to lug around... in college, they just sit in your room. and sometimes you'll take them to the library. but on a daily basis, you don't need them...

am i wrong, or does it seem like the split between backpacks and tote bags is something like 50-50? they're really evenly matched.

I bring it because I feel empty without one :(. There isn't much in my Backpack or Messenger bag, but I've always had an empty feeling when I go to class without one.

definitely. i never used a binder in college either. i used spirals which were later replaced by my laptop. but i never had equations so the laptop was an easy replacement.

don't really need any school supplies unless you want them. paper, pens, calculator if you're doing math, etc.

I use marble notebooks. I'm starting to take less notes because I'm getting used to figuring out what's important from lecture. I used to be really anal about taking everything down - like a stenographer.

Probably just some specific readings from English. Math 3A is just your lecture and you'll probably need to drag some texts to discussion section for your cluster. Really, just wait and see. You won't be severely penalized for not knowing on the first day.

Haha silly, just wait till class starts and see for yourself. You won't be in major trouble if you don't bring the necessary things on the first day! You'll figure out if you need to bring certain things when you attend the first or second meeting.
