backpacks

hey, I'm planning for stuff I'll need next year, and was wondering...

Do people carry backpacks in college?

:)

Yes people carry backpacks in college.

haha, thanks

Try using "Search this Forum" tool and you will see several threads with extensive discussion of types of backpacks / bags recommended and used.

A backpack is a backpack.. but yes, about everyone you see will have one. Unlike high school when most, myself included, didn't even bother with the books ;)

I like how my high school backpack is about to fall apart because there have been so many books stuffed into it (it has ripped in several places due to all the weight)...

I recommend not cheaping out on the backpack; get something durable and comfortable (although just about any cushion/memory foam/whatever will never be itself after a year or two of use.) I have one that has a separate area for a laptop that fits a 15.4" laptop snugly with good padding and I really like it - been using it for two years and still in great condition (nothing is torn.)

You should get a rolling backpack and a pair of heelys.

It actually kind of depends on where you are -- at my small college, they weren't very necessary. Classes aren't really back-to-back all day like they were in high school; you have time to return to your dorm throughout the day. Since my campus wasn't big and my dorm was only five minutes from most of my classes, I just used a big purse that doubled as a bookbag for whatever book and binder I needed at that point in the day. Most others on campus did the same. However, if you know you won't be returning to the dorm during the day, you'll probably need one. Definitely get some kind of laptop bag, though, since most campuses have wireless hotspots in places like the coffeeshop, library, etc. that you might want to take advantage of if your dorm is crazy. :)

yep, they do, but not everyone carries one. I don't, I have a big tote bag that I use for my purse and carrying notebooks. You don't really have to carry textbooks to class alot of the time in many classes, plus your text book might be a tiny reader instead of a giant hardback. I hardly ever carried my laptop around, because there are a bunch of labs on campus, and computers in the library, plus computers in my organization's office that are for our use.

My favorite backpack:

adidas - Men's Accessories: Bags: Masset 2 Backpack

:)

Specs:
Largest backpack they sell at Academy (other than those crazy camping ones)
laptop compartment
comfy straps
3 compartments (laptop pocket is in the largest one, but does not take up the entire compartment)
does not look dorky when there is not stuff in it
headphone "hole" (drop your mp3 player in a pocket near the whole and listen while walking)
one drink pocket on each side

Potential Uses:

carry....
cords for laptop and cell phone chargers
gym clothes to and from the dorm
snacks/lunches
laptop
textbook (has fit every book I own...well not all at once..haha)
binders (etc.)
contact solution/vitamins
notebook cards (in the mp3 pocket)
mp3 player

I use mine often :) It's size makes life easier...no longer do I think ohh shoot that won't fit in my backpack...EVERYTHING does.

size will get annoying. i paid $50 for a big laptop backpack and ended up never using it because it was so bulky. You dont need to bring all your books with you. You will never need more than 2 subjects from what ive experienced

ya I am looking for a bag that is not that big, but will carry a 15.4 inch laptop, but from high school experience carrying a big bag is not good, so any suggestions?

Maybe you could take the laptop to a store and put it in different bags to see what size fits, and then if you didn't like any of the ones there, you could look at backpacks online that are that size.

I am getting the Northface Borealis. In black, because black and white are my college's colors :)

I'll be sporting my JanSport Spring Break on campus a year from now.
It's simple, durable, and does the job - carrying heavy textbooks and my lip balm.

I'm just going to stick with my jansport too... it's lasted me forever and will probably last forever.
