Which is a better backpack brand, Jansport, Northface, or LL Bean?

A lot of people at my college use Jansport. I use Everest rolling backpack because I got tired of lugging a bunch of books and folders over my shoulder.

i like my north face borealis. it’s sturdy, the perfect size, and has a sleeve for my laptop.

this might sound really dumb, but do girls even carry backpacks in college? i know at my school girls stopped carrying them in 9th grade…we all carry large handbags like Longchamp or something, which is large enough for books and laptops

Northface Heckler is roomy and can be used for airplane travel. Plus, it was a laptop sleeve.

I don’t carry a backpack, but a lot of girls do. I think they are silly looking. I hate a zuca for heavy book days, and an acme made clyde and acme made kate for other days.

^ I’m the same. I don’t carry a backpack. I usually just toss my books in an oversize purse or tote.

Jansport are extremely good quality and are cheaper than the other two brands. I’ve had the same one for about 6 years and it is still in pretty good shape. The only problem is that it’s starting to look dirty, which is why I got a new one for Chirstmas that holds a laptop for college. And from when I’ve been on college campuses, most people do carry backpacks. The people that don’t are usually the overly fashionable type who put looks over practicality.

Obviously I meant to say I HAVE a Zuca. I definitely don’t hate my zuca.

I really like LL Bean as they make extremely LARGE backpacks (largest is around 2700 square inches while north face backpacks are only around 1800 square inches). However, they aren’t really waterproof. Does anyone know of any LARGE waterproof backpacks?

Weird responses… Personally I have two Targus laptop bags (15" and 17") so I imagine I will be buying another one of those depending on what size laptop I get.

LOL @ Backpack elitism.

I think Jansport is hit-or-miss (after using the brand for 13 years), and I don’t have any first-hand experience with the others.

I just got a Timbuk2 bag earlier this year - their messenger bags can really take a beating, so I’d think that their backpacks are pretty good, too.

i use free totebags from my piercer and a couple of bookstores.

i just hate spending money on bags.

what’s more popular at colleges? carrying just books, laptop bag, messenger bag, back pack, totes, those string bags that Nike and other companies make, nothing?

^ Probably depends on the type of college you attend.

At my old college, Podunk Plattsburgh, almost everyone carried a backpack/messenger or the free string bag the college passes out, or a tote. I don’t think anybody used a laptop bag or even used a laptop outside of their dorm.

At my current college in the middle of Manhattan, less people do, but it’s usually guys who have either a backpack or laptop bag. Girls tend to either go without anything, a purse, a tote, or just a laptop sleeve; since most people can easily manage with a multi-subject notebook and pen.

I wish I could use those bags that have a sleeve built in, but I bought this huge 17-inch laptop (sounded like a good idea at the time) and can’t find anything that fits it and is small. And my old 13-inch laptop is old, slow, and serves better as a paperweight.

IMO, bring whatever works best for you.

Im using a simple bag

I solved my big bulky laptop problem by getting an Acer Aspire One. It’s one of the best decisions I’ve made. It’s cute and light. I scanned all my books and loaded them onto it, so I don’t even have to carry my books anymore. I also installed one note, so I get great notes in the classes that I can take written notes for. I’m thinking about trying out my old graphics tablet in my math classes. Maybe I can go totally paperless.

I probably should have researched. I got a Dell Studio 17 (they lured me with finger scanner log in), which I love; but it’s not a laptop meant for carrying around—which I guess defeats the purpose of getting a laptop. It wouldn’t be a problem if somebody made a laptop sleeve big enough for a 17-inch, and wasn’t completely ugly and doesn’t weigh more than the laptop.

Mine came with OneNote installed, and I have a Bamboo tablet, but I’m far too lazy to drag it, my laptop, the mouse, cords, pen, and everything else to class.

…plus I’d probably get distracted and sketch pictures of my professor with it.

Check out the Acme Made Designer Slim. Two of their designs, Paul Smith Modulating Stripes and the brown squares, come in an extra large that is supposed to fit a 17" laptop.

They are expensive, but excellent quality. I have two Acme Made bags. One is the Clyde, a rugged messenger bag (which a pink lining) that I have had for several years and trekked back and forth across country and it still looks like new. The other is the Kate, which I just bought for this semester and love. It’s a good company with good products, so if you don’t mind investing a little give em a look.
