What are the common educational tracks that students take who aren't admitted to Ross? Is there a business minor? Econ maybe?
Any input is greatly appreciated.

There’s a business minor (or at least will be soon). Most people choose Econ if they don’t get into Ross. There’s a lot to do within LSA too.

There’s going to be a business minor? Would you have to apply to Ross the same way that prospective Business majors would?

Not for the minor, it’s meant as an option for LSA students to get business knowledge.

[Dual Degrees - Stephen M. Ross School of Business](<a href=“Areas of Study | Michigan Ross”>BBA Minors - Academics at the Michigan Ross School of Business)

"BBA students who are interested may pursue academic minors from other units within the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, including all minors offered by the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA), and select minors within the School of Art & Design, the College of Engineering, the School of Social Work, and the School of Music, Theater, and Dance. "

there is no business minor. that webpage describes the option for bba students to pursue minors outside of business…

You’re right nubs, sorry I just glanced at it and it looked right.

I have heard talk of a business minor being offered in the near future though, maybe call the business school directly?

What career are you looking to get into? I’m interested in either consulting or trading when it comes to business and I came here thinking of doing computer science if I didn’t get accepted to Ross (you can get both of those jobs and even ibanking with a cs degree, and consulting firms and traders really like engineers, or anybody with a lot of experience with math really)… I liked my backup plan so much I made it my primary plan. (I’m also very interested in programming too)

Econ’s probably the most common one, but why not try to take advantage of this world class engineering department while you’re here?.. unless you’re really not interested in doing that.

I’m a Ross grad and have hired outside the business school for business hires. As noted above it depends upon your interests. Econ is a common fallback plan but depending upon your interest their are plenty of other options. Take as many business classes as you can even if you don’t get in. It used to be you could take accounting and a few others without being in Ross. Skills in demand would be technology/programming, writing, communications, etc. Pick a few things that look interesting as possible careers and talk to people in that field and see what skills they value. Find some classes where those skills are used. Much of what I learned I never used (I’m in a technical field and my computer class at Ross was of no use for example) but the basics - finance, accounting, marketing, business law is stuff you will use someplace along the way.
