backup schools?

Where is everyone applying along with Princeton? Or for you EDers- where are you applying if... you get deferred/rejected? Just trying to get an idea of what schools are similar to Princeton.

I hear a lot of Duke/Stanford comparisions to Princeton. I'm not sure how true it is!

Yesss I was hoping someone would say that! I haven't visited Duke but I saw some awesome gothic stone buildings on their virtual tour. I don't really see how Stanford is similar to Princeton though, but I hear it's beautiful. Well I guess palm trees can make almost anywhere beautiful :)

ya, that and valleys and an ocean on one side of campus!

haha yeah.. wow that would be amazing. I guess life can go on if I don't get into Princeton... as long as I get into Stanford! (ha yeah right) where else are you guys applying? I was thinking Northwestern. Doesn't it have stone/gothic buildings kind of like Princeton?

I'm totally going for the small LAC thing if I don't get into Princeton...Swarthmore, Amherst, Williams...well, you get the picture! And a few all-women's schools somehow crept onto my list: Smith, (I'm a legacy there) Wellesley, and Bryn Mawr. Seems like I'm in the minority on this one!

well that's awesome there are other schools you love. what are swarthmore/amherst/williams like? I always pictured them as in the middle of nowhere.. is that true? are the campuses pretty?

Hey kraor, seems like we're kind of carrying on this discussion on 2 different threads! I think "pretty" would be an understatement; I found all of the campuses absolutely stunning (maybe not quite as gorgeous as Pton, but as close as is humanly possible). Williams is in the middle of nowhere, really, and the other 2 feel like it but aren't really to the same extent: Swat is fairly close to Philly, and Amherst has the 5-College Consortium to make it feel a little less isolated. Also, Amherst is not too far from where I live, so it just feels less isolated to me personally because it would be easy for me to get home. Anyway, all of them are kind of similar--small, lovely, very personal.

Hmm.. I've really got to visit them. I think I'd prefer a city though. I'll need to be in NYC or something to distract myself from my misery from being rejected at Pton, haha. Maybe I should apply to NYU or Columbia...

At Williams, the surrounding Berkshires look purple at sunset. Is this enough of a distraction?
JK; I know what you're saying. I decided early on that I didn't want to be in a city, but to each his own, especially when it comes to college!

Haha maybe... well I just love to be able to walk places and have a lot to do, but I'm sure I could do that at suburban colleges too. I just need to visit some places... after I finish this stupid pton essay. by the way, what are the buildings like at Amherst, Swarthmore, Williams, etc? are they brick or stone/gothic like some of pton's? (I LOVE stone buildings :) ) oh and by the way again, I looked at your chances thread from a while ago and I was amazed!!! We are actually kind of similar in some ways, except you have a ton more than me and you look a lot more impressive lol. I think you'll definitely get into pton.

omg we can be such good friends if we get into P'ton!!!

ok, if we all get in, promise to share names and location to meet. LOL!!

we can share a sub at Hoagie Haven (lol if you know what that is)

lol anyone like jogging? i heard theres a thing each year where all the Freshmen go jogging around the city. I WANNA DO THIS SO BAD!!

Punch and pie!

yeah i LOVE jogging!!!

oh and WHOA btlesgirl: I just looked at your chances thread again: I got the Rensselaer Medal too, I am pres of the key club, I took the same SAT IIs as you and got the same score in History, I play the piano too, I'm interested in art & architecture, and we have the exact same PSAT score and almost the same SAT score! except all that other stuff you have... i don't have lol.

lol, it seems to me that Princeton only has room for one of you.

we'll settle it on a dual, hehe.

hey Kraor, post the hyperlink for btlesgirl's CHANCES thread.

I wanna read it hehe.

thx

Hahaha yeah I was thinking that too!!! btlesgirl will get in :( but maybe once she gets the acceptance letter she can write back and set one condition: she will only go if I am accepted RD! and then the rest of you can revolt too until I'm accepted. Princeton will not want their yield rate to go down.... please? I'll make you cookies...

here's her chances thread. i hope she doesn't mind
