I am a junior in a rural town in NM. I am taking AP Chemistry and it's not looking too good. AP Chemistry is like Chem 2 in my school. I took Pre-AP Chemistry as a sophomore and did some AP work in that class, but not much.

The teacher I have has not had anyone pass the AP exam in all of her 5 (I think) years of teaching. The vast majority of the students scores 1's and some promising past students scored a 2.

I really want to pass the exam, and my teacher thinks I'll be the first one, but I'm still very nervous. What do you all think is the best way to increase my chances in doing well on this exam? I am also planning to take the SAT Subject Test in Chemistry so I'll need advice for that, too.

Thanks for viewing and please post comments!

With chemistry the best way to improve is to do many problems. Read your textbook, consider buying a study guide if you already haven’t a read that too. Do as many problems as you fell necessary until you get it. You can view past free response questions here [AP Central - The AP Chemistry Exam](<a href=“Supporting Students from Day One to Exam Day – AP Central | College Board”>AP Chemistry Exam – AP Central | College Board). The multiple choice part of AP is very similar to the SAT Subject Test. Don’t let the stories of everyone saying how hard AP Chem is scare you, I got a 5 on the AP and a 790 on the SAT II so it is possible.

If you have taken a course that is similar to honors chem then you should be able to score a 3 on the exam without studying. All you would need to do is look over old AP free response questions on the college board website ( they help immensely). If you haven’t covered enough material then I suggest you get at it. If you have a chem textbook, learn the material you don’t know and test yourself over it. You don’t need to necessarily master every unit to pass the exam. If you simply learn all the required topics, you can pull off a 3 easily. If you are headed towards perfection, do every single comprehensive problem in your textbook/review book. I got 800 on Chem SAT II and that was surprisingly easy. I’m self studying AP chem (school doesn’t have it). Good luck. hope i helped

Read the book until your brain hurts! Talk chemistry, let everyone else know about chemistry and do practice problems. I just about to post those websites but @biodontchem beat me to it. Good luck.
