I worked hard all of high school so I would be able to get into the schools I wanted to go to and these results are making me feel like it wasn't worth it at all. There are kids in my schools who had lower stats and did less work than me that got accepted into the same/more colleges than me. I'm not sure what happened but maybe I just thought I was more qualified than I actually was. Sorry if I seem ungrateful but I just expected more for myself. Is there any chance of getting off these waitlists or is it just a nice way of rejection?

i can totally sympathize with you, im feeling so effed up right now. 4 waitlists in one day sucks major...got effin waitlisted at Columbia, Penn, Cornell, and Stanford...i feel like absolute crap

1234: Demographics play a VERY large role in RD admissions; that being said, your waitlists will depend on demographics as well...i.e. are your schools filled up with NY, white students? If the answer is probably yes, then WL will be difficult......

My guess is that there was more waitlisting this year than usual, meaning that there is indeed a meaningful chance of getting off one (or more) out of 8 waitlists. You could try the usual:
send letter to waitlist schools telling each how much you love it, update with news.

Meanwhile, there's lots to love about UMich and BC. I hope after a bit of time you will start feeling better about your choices. They're wonderful schools and not even significantly differently ranked than many of the ones that waitlisted you.
