Bad College Towns

Beautiful, but boring:
Canton, NY; (St. Lawrence U.)
Annandale-on-Hudson, NY; (Bard C.)

Also: New Haven's not NEARLY as bad as it used to be--even five/ten years ago. It's in the early stages of a revival (a la Providence, RI circa 2000.) Middletown's also revived.

Flint, Michigan.

Kettering. 1000 engineers in the middle of the city which always seems to find its way to the top of murder rate per capita lists.

CSU Dominguez Hills

New Haven is not that bad...besides the whole city pretty much revolves around Yale and Qpac

providence, villanova, and bentley i thought were all in pretty terrible areas. villanova at least has a train to philadelphia in easy access

why pomona?

I love Binghamton University, but the town is ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY BORING!

Anybody who says New Haven is "great" is absolutely clueless. I live about 20 minutes from there and have been in the town many times. It is disgusting. That simple. There is nothing there either, which also sucks, except for Pepe's pizza. Whatup Joe Miol.

I'm sure that Yale, what with its bajillion-dollar endowment and all, has been able to create a gentrification bubble around itself. That doesn't mean New Haven as a whole is "great."

haha do it for joe miol--- whoever said charleston is a bad college town- do you mean SC? cuz its a great town right on the water- now North Dakota- i agree and the SUNYs basically all suck, yale isnt great- ncody is right but storrs is way worse- in connecticut- trinity is in harvard (just as bad as new haven id say) the worst is WESTERN MONTANA- in dillon, montana

As to New Haven, I didn't mean to imply that the entire town is "great" -- but rather that it's a great town for college students. There are endless things to do both on and off the Yale campus, great restaurants, good bars and nightlife, all sorts of activities -- music, theater, dance, the annual Arts and Ideas festival, there are decent beaches on LI Sound less than an hour away up I-95, good skiing within reach for weekend trips, etc., etc. What's wrong with that!?! Anybody who thinks New Haven has nothing to offer sounds like someone who has driven past it and never stopped to look around. Granted, it's not Cambridge, but you could do a LOT worse.

whatever new haven haters. obviously you've never lived in new haven, never hung outside during a nice day, never gone out at night when the city comes alive. but i'm sure growing up your parents warned you about going to the city. right?

sorry i didnt read carefully u meant charleston WV- good lol-to add to the list-
all those sh**** colleges in wyoming, idaho, dakotas etc, seton hall/rutgers

now best towns- UCONN at Stamford, Bob Jones U, and Eastern Kentucky

ahahha smcnair. I actually saw UCONN Stamford after a baseball game once. I think Americo Renzulli painted the walls. BJU for life. No holding hands or watching movies above G. That's funny you mention Eastern Kentucky. They surprisingly send 85% of their graduates to D-Rut's farming corp. The average salary is aroun $2,000. But thet get free rakes, so it's all good.

Connecticut's college cities have struggled for decades. Currently, none of them compare favorably to Boston or New York. That said, Hartford and New Haven possess a lot of 'high culture,' i.e. museums, historic sites--many related to Yale and Trinity.
New London (Conn. College) and Middletown (Wesleyan) are nicer now than at any point in the past few decades, (so I hear--I'm not old enough to have seen them in the 70s.)
Storrs is not the greatest college town--very rural.

ugh- vassar. poughkeepsie, ny is AWFUL!

"poughkeepsie"

For years I never knew how you were supposed to pronounce that, and then my english teacher finally told me and I was dissapointed.

Trinity......I've been chased by a local on my way back from the library, and a kid was knifed outside a frat this year....I'll be transferring next fall. :)

I wouldn't say it's even close to the worst...but Palo Alto is kinda boring.

anybody notice many of the schools listed are not located in what most would consider a college town?
