Bad Decision to Transfer?

Hi everyone!

I'm currently a freshman in my second semester at SUNY Stony Brook and I have a transfer application in with Hunter College. I came into SBU wanting to go into Biology and Pre-med, which are two programs that SBU excels in. I realized after last semester that I didn't really want to pursue this after all, and I'm currently a declared English major and French minor in my second semester (Which I don't plan on staying).

If I were to transfer, I am considering studying Psychology at Hunter with a concentration in Neuroscience and also possibly a minor in Linguistics (considering masters programs in cognition and language).

Am I making a mistake to transfer? I know the environment (NYC) of Hunter is much more appealing to me than SBU but how is the student life/programs I'm considering there. I don't want to regret this because I know that if I transfer, I'll be there for the rest of my four years.

To be honest, I think Stony Brook is the better school all around. With that being said, if you really like Hunter, and are more comfortable there, and it has a major you’re interested in that Stony Brook doesn’t have (or even if they do) then go for it. Make sure you want to go to Hunter, not just want to leave Stony Brook or this situation may come up again. (My husband went to 4 schools before graduating!) If you’re happier with Hunter, you’ll also do better there and if you do apply to grad school better grades at Hunter will be better then average grades at Stony Brook.
