I’m almost done with my first semester of freshman year at high school, and things aren’t going that great.
GPA(unweighted): 3.2
I tried to do everything at the beginning of the year, and wasn’t ready for the massive change in climate when going into high school. My school is really competitive, and the classes were hard, I realize that this doesn’t excuse my bad grades, but it will affect my class rank.
GPA(weighted): 4.1
I took all honors(highest level classes available) so that boosted my GPA quite a bit. I’m taking Bio and Geometry, so I should(hopefully) be able to take physics and calculus as a senior.
ECs:
-Class Leader: It was incredibly easy to get elected(would colleges know about that?), and hopefully I can keep the position for the next 4 years.
-Band: I’m mediocre at best, I play Tenor Saxophone and will probably drop next year to save time.
-School Newspaper: I’m just writing articles right now, but hopefully I can become editor as a senior(not much competition)
-Volunteering: I have 50+ hours right now, and will definitely get the Gold Presidents Award next year.
-Debate: This is the only thing that’s going for me right now. I’ve octofinaled at a national tournament, and have had a winning record every tournament so far. I am qualified to go to states for my event, and hopefully can go to TOC as a sophomore or junior.
-Company: This is kind of a stretch, but my friend and I started a company, we program games together(I’m really bad at coding, but my friend is good), and hopefully we can get a couple apps onto the google play store in the next 2 months.
-Cultural School: I went to this random cultural school for 8 years. I have a certificate of mastery of my language, and apparently I get credits(probably a rumor).
So that’s pretty much a sum-up of my academic record so far. I come from a low middle class family and I can’t get money from my parents to pay for college. My original go was to go to Harvard, and take out a bunch of loans, but have pretty much realized that that’s impossible at this point, so I am aiming for U Chicago or something at that level. Could anyone let me know what I need to do to get to that level of a college, or if I even have a chance anymore.
Thanks
