Bad freshman year, but hopeful for success!

Hello everyone! So here’s a little background; I have always done extremely well in school. In Junior high I was identified as a Gifted and Talent student in both the English and Math department. I always had exceptional grades throughout Jr. High, but when I was a freshman things went awry. I became extremely sick with mono, causing me to miss nearly a month and school and not recover well. My father walked out of my life, and I no longer cared about school and could not adjust to things. My grades were terrible, and at the end of my freshman year my GPA was only a 87.75 . My sophomore year I worked very hard to bring my GPA up to a 91.5667 and now at the end of the first semester of my Junior year I have an exact 93.000 GPA. I did not take any honors or AP classes my sophomore year due to extremely low grades in the past. But this year I am taking multiple honors and AP classes. My grades last semester were decent ( 99 in AP Language, 100 in A.S.L 3, 100 in Creative Writing, 100 in Honor Choir, 100 in Civics, 95 in Chemistry, and an 88 in Honors Pre-Calculus) I scored a 187 on the PSAT which means a projected 1,870 on the SAT. What are my chances at getting into schools such as Boston University, New York University, or any other schools you may suggest. I am looking into majoring in either communications or journalism.

I’ll also add that first semester of sophomore year, all my grades were above a 93 except for one 90. And second semester of sophomore year all grades were above a 93

Mention your issues in your essays and supplements and i’m sure you’d have pretty good chances.

Yeah, you’ve a good chance. BU will certainly take you in.
NYU could be a gamble, but overall your profile is good, the upward trend helps. If your ECs and essays turn out to be good, you could get into NYU too.

Chance me back?
