Bad Freshmen year:

I did somewhat bad freshmen year, I plan on going to either Cal Poly Pomona or UCSC or UCSB but I got a 3.6 weighted GPA my freshmen year, do you think I still have a shot, I want to major in Computer Science, Double Major in Finance and Computer Science if I get into Pomona

As far as I understand, UCs don’t look at freshmen GPA.

Frigidcold but I got a D my freshmen year however I replaced the grade with an A over the summer but the D is still on my transcript will this ruin my shot at going to a UC

If you retook the “exact” class in the summer, your D will be replaced by the A. Only 10-11th grades for the a-g courses are calculated into the CSU/UC GPA: http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

From the UC website:

For freshman applicants, a grade of C or better is required to meet a subject requirement. D and F grades are not acceptable and must be cleared by repeating a class, completing advanced work in the same subject area of sequential knowledge (math or language other than English) or attaining certain minimum scores on SAT, AP or IB examinations

When a student successfully repeats a course that they failed the first time, how should the school and the student report the two courses?

The student must self-report the grades for both courses on the application, and the University will determine which course and grade will be used in the GPA calculation. Schools should follow their own or their district’s policy in recording grades.

Too early to tell your chances. You need SAT/ACT scores, your UC/CSU GPA at the end of Junior year and a list of EC’s, awards etc… Just keep working hard and you will succeed. Good Luck.

+GumbyMom ok, I am currently repeating the exact same course and have an A in it and I have already took the PSAT and have gotten an 1800 I was just making sure the D wouldn’t keep me from getting admitted IF I have the test scores, GPA, etc.

Great that you are doing well in the retake. Good luck.

Thanks
