Bad GPA/class rank, how will it affect me?

Will good test scores make up for a bad GPA/class rank? here's my other thread with my stats:

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/515927-college-hopeful-new-improved-stats.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/515927-college-hopeful-new-improved-stats.html</a></p>

I know schools like UT Austin and Berkely are notorious for looking at numbers and nothing else, but do you guys think I have a decent chance at those schools despite my lowish class rank?

If you lived in Texas, you'd practically be a lock for UT.

Too bad. I'm sorry.

At Berkely 99 percent of the students are in the top 10 percent of their high school class.

Forget about Berkley, no offense, unless the average sat score for your school is at least 2050 (which would show that your high school is really REALLY competitive), and your ec's are pretty weak, I don't mean to offend.

If you can raise your sat score to a 2330 and get in the top 20 percent of your class you'd have a REALLY good shot at UT.

I'm not looking at those schools though, lol. This is my college list:

Georgia Tech
Virginia Tech
Purdue - West Lafayette
University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign
Pennsylvania State - University Park
University of Florida
Carnegie Mellon
Rice
Cornell

bumping...

At Rice, 76 percent of the student body was in the top 5 percent of their class.

If you go to a really hard high school though, they'll be more lenient.

Sorry, but your chances at Cornell and Rice aren't good.

Yeah but Cornell and Rice are my reach schools...am I really a lock-in for the others like everyone is saying?

bumpingggg

i definitely think you have a great shot at getting into those schools -- even if cornell is a reach, i dont think it would be crazy for you to get in there...
