I'm interested in majoring in Computer Science and I'm taking classes like AP Computer Programming and Advanced Topics in Computer Science next year. I know that my GPA is really weak (something which I regret), but I was hoping that my test scores and extracurriculars would help at least a little?

The schools that I'm interested in include University of Illinois, Carnegie Mellon, Ohio State University, Purdue, Berkeley, Duke, Stanford and MIT (I know that the last couple on that list are reaches :P). Are these even a little reasonable? Should I even bother? Are there any other colleges that I should be considering? Feel free to be brutal, I can handle it ^^ [I think]

I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to be rude/mean, but like I said, my high school is filled with people with 4.4s, so that doesn’t do well for the self esteem. I really am sorry, though!

okay, I would say all except for the last two you will get into, especially because you are Indian, because all colleges have to except a certain amount of minorities, no offense it’s the truth. I am the one with the bad gpa it is barely a 3.0 weighted.

You have a really good chance at the top schools you have.
The Indian part won’t help but might actually hurt your chances, but you will be a match for all the colleges you listed [except SM]. I wouldn’t be surprised if you got into Stanford or MIT or both!

This solidified the notion that you’re trollin’. I mean, you have a 2350 first try and you’re asking if you should retake your SAT so you’ll have a better shot of applying to Illinois, OSU, and Purdue, which you don’t even know if are at a reasonable level for you.

err. I wasn’t trying to ■■■■■ or whatever. Illinois and OSU are my safe schools. I was asking whether my SAT score was enough for the last couple schools on the list. I know that 2350 is a good score, but I have a low GPA and I’m only in the top 20% of my class (which I forgot to mention in my original post). So even though my SAT score might be good, I have a lot to compensate for, or at least it feels that way to me. Correct me if I’m wrong, though.

Retaking the SATs will not really help you, so spend the time and money somewhere else. Your GPA is perfectly fine. Excellent chances for everywhere except Stanford and MIT, but you are a competitive applicant for both.

My GPA is like yours and I’m also worried. But I think you have great chances at most of the schools. And if you’re close to Stanford, try do work there. I think connections at Stanford is important… My school sent 24 kids to Stanford this year…And more got accepted…

@emurocket - for Stanford and MIT I have a low GPA/class rank. sorry for being a snob :P

@bajasheep - unfortunately, I live on the other side of the country, so working there is not going to happen -___- Thanks for the advice though.
