I'm a senior at a really prestigious, tiny private school
my SAT scores are really good - 2340 SAT1, 750+ on three SAT2s, 740 on a fourth SAT 2
i've taken six APs, and gotten one 4 and five 5s.
I'm also a conservatory level musician and editor incheif of the yearbook

However, my GPA is god-awful, think B+s and A-s.
If I work my butt off this semester and get all As in my tough classes, do I have a chance at top ivies/stanford?

Wow, B+s and A-s are god awful, you have no chance at anything.
Are you kidding me? Have a little faith in yourself, jeez.
Looks like you will have a 3.6/3.7 with really really good SATs.
Honestly, the Ivys and Stanford are a reach for EVERYONE. They are looking for more than just the numbers. I would encourage you to apply to some of the lower Ivy League schools such as Penn and Cornell. You only apply to college once so if you REALLY want to go somewhere, you should apply. Thats why I am applying to UNC even though its near impossible to get in from out of state.

When we visited Duke this summer, the admission lady told us, they will count the C- from some very competitive private schools at DC area as an A.

So, don’t worry too much. I think your grades are pretty good for Ivies.
Does your school rank?

Oh please…most schools would fire an adcom who said that. They want applications up, but that’s going a bit far.

We would need the context of what those grades mean at your school to say. Is this Exeter where there have been 2 4.0s in a decade or do many at your school have higher grades?

there are definitely kids with better grades, albeit with easier coursework.
those who’ve taken the harder courses usually have grades that include B+s and A-s and As

laughalottt-- what is your actual GPA? like 3.75? 3.8?
Also, I think we would all appreciate a more comprehensive list of your ECs/awards/etc that would help us chance you :)
