bad grades, applying to Andover & Choate

I've been getting bad grades in the past few years, also this past term. Applying for 9th grade.
SSAT- not yet
TOEFL- not yet
Grades (IB 1-7) this past term 8th grade- a 7 (A+) 3 6s (A), few 5s (B), and 2 4s (C)
expecting good recs from math and english
not many ECs. only sports and art.
Do I have chances for Andover and Choate with these grades?
How high do my SSAT and TOEFL have to be?

I speak 3 languages fluently. I’m also asian.

Grades hold weight, I would try to bring up my grades if I were you. Also broaden your short list and have some safe schools. Choate is not for everyone. I would give it a shot. I’m not going to discourage you but, look at other schools too and work hard on the essays.

I’m applying for Cushing for safety. Unfortunately, it’s too late for me to improve my grades because i’ll have to send the transcript next month :(. The next report card comes out in late December or January.

I don’t think so. Try for it and work hard and you have a chance but its a long shot. However if you do stellar on the tests and you pick up volunteer work and a few other EC’s then you might have a chance. Just have an amazing interview and boast a little about the languages you speak and maybe. but still, it’s a longshot. I wouldn’t blame the grades totally but I would blame the lack of EC’s.
