What if theres an instance in which someone recieved several low marks but still maintained a high cumulative GPA (both weighted+unweighted), would it hurt admissions..??

Yes.

Here's something everyone at a Chances board should realize: Anything that is not perfect WILL hurt chances.

There are a lot of factors to your application. Your SAT/ACT scores, EC's, essays, recs, and interview can all offset a few bad grades. The effect of those low marks on your overall chances really depends on how low the marks were, in what classes you got them, and where (read: how competitive) the school you're applying to is.

What is worse?

Getting 1 or 2 bad grades (D or F)
or many Cs??

what is your opinion?

what's your GPA, what year did you get the low grades, what were they exactly? i'd need a little more info because it all depends, low grades early on generally look better than junior year because it will look like you made an effort to bring them up. i don't know for sure though, but that's what one of my teachers told me.

an f can really hurt.... so can many cs...id say getting an f is like getting 2 or 3 c's....

"What is worse?

what is your opinion?"

By this do you mean actual grades for a particular piece of work, or a grade on your report? As in, your average for a subject in a semester or something?

Because if it's ONE (as in grade for an essay 4 eg) D or one F, I'm going to have a heart attack.

lol no i mean like on ur report card... im sure we'v all had our fair share of 4s and 5s in ind. peices of work.. but its what shows up on ur transcripts that matters...but lol i can understand y the heart attack..

Phhheww if there is a God I thank him/her/it for that!
Wow I can't express the relief I'm experiencing right now..

Yeah I have this problem.... I received a myriad of C's and a few D's. Yet my weighted GPA is an 87. And most my classes are either honors or AP. 2/3 classes I got D's in were college. And in both AP class i've gotten B-. my rank is like 100/400. Does this look bad with a 1270.

wow, that is bad, i got B- without pre-req for college course. but worked hard. and that still makes me look bad, but if you aren't applying to top 20, then you got great chance

i got two Fs sophomore year and did good ever since...
Unweighted GPa is: 3.25
Weighted is; 4.12

Do you think the bad grades early on really hurt?

nah, the important thing is u improved, it's like you have realized what you have done wrong, which is great!!!! if anything, i think that'll increase your chance of getting in!

I know someone that got a D for semester soph yr. He ended his high school career with a 3.7499uw and a 3.9166w from 10-11 and his sat score was a 1330, but ofcourse he retook the semester with the D. But he is attending UC Berkely right now

oh yeah caliplaya03, i know someone who could get in to any school without SATs, his name is GOD lol

Hahahah...no that wasnt even funny.

Well, I am in the same situation, w/ 1 D, 3 C's, and 1 B for my first term of freshman year. Now, I recieve high A's (w/ MAYBE 1 B) and I plan to continue this. But, that is funny that you said it may even increase chances, even though I HIGHLY DOUBT IT. Well, I will certainly have my guidance counselor include some sort of note, when I am applying to college.

does anyone know if UNC-Chapel Hill is picky with individual grades sophomore year?

so can anyone give a message on a persons chance to UNC-Chapel Hill if hes in state, has high GPA, but had a Fs sophmore year??
