I have an E and D on my transcript from freshman year. I retook geometry because I got an E and I guess they averaged it to be a D. But the E is still there. My gpa was a 2.85 uw because of those grades However, this year as a sophomore I have a 3.5 uw gpa so far and I'm still plan on improving. If i get straight A's from now on I can even get a 3.6 uw gpa counting freshman year. I was just wondering if colleges will reject me because of my E and D on my transcript even if I show an upward trend? I do well in my other classes...it was just geometry that gave me trouble. So how much will those grades affect my chances?

I plan on applying to:
USC
UCLA
UCSB
UCB
Georgetown
UMD-CP
NYU

And, if those bad grades were due to a family circumstance or illness, then you can write a letter addressing it when you submit your application.

couldnt i still get into ucla and ucb because i thought that they dont look at freshman grades and it was freshman year when i got those bad grades. Also im planning on improving a lot. I cant get my uw gpa to a 3.6 by the end of senior year and a gpa over 4.0 w because im taking many ap's junior/senior year. im also involved in many ec's. So could i still get in any of those schools that i listed with my freshman grades if i improve, have great sat scores. I just need to know i still have a chance. I would also love to get into georgetown and USC as well the UC's i listed.

If you improve your grades a lot, the colleges will definitely take that into consideration and you'll be okay. So yeah, if you really get your grades up, you still have a chance.

I don't think a bad grade in your freshman year should ruin your chances...if everything else is fine, a single bad grade you got three years ago won't carry much weight.
