Bad habits when studying?

Anybody have some really bad habits while they study?

Mine is always feeling hungry and thus always having to eat when I study. I wanna try to break this habit, any ideas?

Go study somewhere where you have no access to food. If you feel like you’re starving, drink lots of water.

I fall asleep a lot. I get comfortable and sprawl out on my bed or my bedroom floor and it’s Zzzzzzzzz in a second. I’m more productive if I study or read at the library or between classes but I commute so I doubt I would ever make a trip to school just to go to the library but I’ve stayed later after class.
I also get caught up watching TV. I like background noise when I do homework but I definitely get caught up in it sometimes.

I’ve done both today, btw…and yesterday.

Eat before you study (a meal with lots of carbs). Don’t study hungry you won’t be able to fully concentrate. Don’t study in the same room you sleep or have a lot of electronics.

My bad habit is studying late afternoon or at night where I’m not really motivated to get anything done.

My worst habit is that 15 minutes of studying = credit for 1 hour of web surfing

At least you get a solid 15 minutes of study.

My mind tends to go off on a tangent after every other page of textbook I read, and I end up crying afterwards. It’s always because of the same thoughts. When I finish crying for a few minutes I keep reading, then cry again, etc.

Usually get a chapter done every day (~25 pages on average). Not a problem that I can really fix. Just gotta deal with it.

Ipod and computer. Both are HUGE distractions. But they can also be beneficial because ipod blocks out the noise when you need to study, while the computer can serve a valuable purpose as a resource (internet dictionary, internet in general to find information). I’m not going to lie, though, I get carried away on Facebook, CC, and IMDB often. I usually just go to the library because I know I will work if I am stuck somewhere I can’t make a lot of noise.

Studying on a couch or bed… Your bed is where you sleep/relax thus when you get on it your brain associates with that. I find that when I’m somewhat hungry I can concentrate better then with a full stomach. Personally, when I have a big assignment, I like to work for an hour and then take a break for 30 min. I’ll dedicate a whole Sat or Sun to this. Thus I’m not as under pressure to cram everything. STAY OFF facebook! and/or youtube (last semester I deleted my account before finals week). If you space out your studying enough, you shouldn’t haft to study for more then a total of 3 hours a day, 6 for BIG exams.
