Bad HS report (counselor's letter) what should I do?

Hi.

I am thinking of applying Junior spring transfer. Currently I finished a freshmen year and earned 30 credits. I have a bad HS report from my HS counselor due to some conflicts. But now I have good relationship with the professors in my current school.

What should I do to minimize the damage that might be caused by the bad HS report? Should I go and talk to him? Please help me.

You only need your high school transcript, no letter from your high school counselor, so you should be fine! :)

You don’t need to include any letters that aren’t a part of your official transcript. As far as the transfer institution needs to know, that letter never existed.

If it’s a CA school that requires the HS Final Report, it does not include the GC evaluation that the SSR did:

https://www.commonapp.org/CommonApp/Docs/DownloadForms/2013/2013FinalReport_download.pdf

No I mean the high school report.

https://www.commonapp.org/print.pdf?caoid=8764DA53-94C4-446B-9C6D-7F3A25B6C5D1&p1=1&p2=1&p3=2&p4=17625032&limitedrelease=true&reqsf=True&p5=True&fname=School%20Report.pdf

There is the rating and evaluation part. That’s what I am worried of!

Sorry, I couldn’t get your link to work.

But if you go to the CA list of downloads:

https://www.commonapp.org/CommonApp/DownloadForms.aspx

You’ll see that the School Report form is only for fr applicants. Transfer applicants use the Final report form that I linked to in my earlier post and which does not include the Ratings and Evaluation sections.

Please check one more time! Because on Commonapp under ‘School Forms’ section, it says

“If the university requires the High School Report, please make sure your high school counselor includes your high school profile and official transcript with the completed report.”

And there is a document named ‘school report.’ This time I got a link that works! Please check!

The high school thing is for freshman applicants only, you would at most need to do the college official’s report.

As Entomom and Marty said, the School Report is only for Frosh applicants.

The documents for Transfer applicants do not require the School Report. If the school you’re applying to requests your HS transcripts, that’s all you have to provide; no need for any other documents not relevant to the Transfer application.

Thanks! I now understand everything :)

I actually tried sophomore transfer and sent this document to the colleges…how stupid am I. I am now thinking that the report contributed to the rejections, since it could have only lowered my chance of acceptance.

I will repeat, when a college wants a HS report from a transfer student, the form they want is the Final Report, not the School Report.

One final thing for you to look at: on the School Report you are asked to list your

This is not asked for on the Final Report because it’s not relevant, all transfer applicants will have completed their sr year in HS and will have final grades.

I’m sorry, but that’s how I read this information and it looks very straightforward for me as there are two headings for the downloadable forms, one for fr and one for transfers. If this still doesn’t satisfy, the best thing to do is to call the colleges you’re applying to and ask which form they want you to send.

x-posted w/everyone :).
