Alright-- so I've sadly been rejected from my dream school (Uchicago) two years in a row. I kind of understand why I was rejected for admission my first year-- my high school grades were not that great (freshman year messed me up) and I think the interview could have gone better. I applied for transfer admission for my second year of school, and was rejected again. My grades are decent (3.7 gpa) and I'm involved in volunteering, work, etc. I take difficult classes (calc, statistics, greek and roman hst, etc) so its not as though I'm slacking off. My essay was rather good and my interview went really well.

So, my question is-- is it foolish to apply again next year during my second year of college? Also, would it be better to stay at my current university, even though I hate it-- or should I transfer to one of the other schools I've applied to (assuming I'll get in somewhere, most likely NYU)? In terms of admission would transfering hurt my chances?

I'd really appreciate any ideas/help/oppinions.

I'm not sure if it matters-- but I'm currently attending DePaul in Chicago..

I'm not sure how it works with that particular school, but I know that most schools don't admit a lot of sophomore-level transfers -- which could explain your rejection this year.

I don't think it would be foolish to try again next year if this is something you absolutely want -- if you wanted to wait it out, you would probably have a much higher chance at admission next year as a junior-level transfer. Have you checked out the admissions stats for the school?

That said, one of my friends was denied admission to UChicago 3 years ago and went to NYU -- absolutely loved it. And if you are accepted to a great school this year, it may be worth considering. What is that old saying? A bird in the hand is worth 3 in the bush? LMAO

Whatever you decide, you sound dedicated and I'm sure you'll end up somewhere great. Good luck!

There's a woman who hangs out on these boards sometimes, "Hanna"... apparently, she applied to Harvard as a freshman-- denied. She applied again as a sophomore-- denied. Her school counselor told her not to even bother applying again, that it was masochistic. Well, her third try, she was accepted! So no, it's not a bad idea.

Thanks for the advice. Do you think it matters if I transfer for my sophomore year or should I try and stick it out for another year? I'm just scared that If I do stick it out-- I'll get rejected again and be stuck at DePaul until I graduate..

Humm, and also-- would it be a bad idea to call uchicago and ask about if it would be better to stay at my current school or transfer to another in terms of my admissions odds?

It never hurts. I'm on my third go at Brown and Pomona...but there were some weird circumstances first and second time around. Especially with Brown the second time (did the app in like a day)...shudders to look back

I was rejected the first time at Brown and waitlisted the second, though. Gettin closer!

don't give up- i just got into georgetown on my third try.

also, i was rejected twice before from chicago and this year i got deferred until my final grades are available (hopefully ill get in bc i think im goign to have a 4.0 this semester).

i know what you are going through man, it sucks but dont give up.
