Bad idea to take too many credits at community college??

Hi, I'm currently at a community college and am planning to transfer in the spring of 2012... If I stay on the same course I am on, I will finish with my Associate's degree and 73 credits total. The college I want to attend told me they will only accept 70 credits from a community college and that the office of admissions or something will choose the classes that apply least to my major and those classes won't transfer...but I'm not too sure if the counselor I talked to was very sure of herself. She didn't seem to know what she was talking about and couldn't give me very good answers... anyway, I'm thinking about taking one more class in addition to the 73 credits I will take for sure... If I take this class I will finish with 77 credits. The thing is the class I want to take will apply to my major. I want to take linear algebra, not only will I be a little more on track, I really love math and want to take this class bad....it's hard to wait. That means when I transfer I will be done with all my calculus(1-3) and will have taken elementary linear algebra...

So, my question.... do you think this is a bad idea?? Could this possibly bite me in the ass in anyway?? Do you think having so many credits will effect my admissions??

btw, the reason I have so many credits is because I had to take a foreign language... I really don't want to take those classes again. They don't contribute anything to my associate's degree, they were just electives.. if there is any chance that taking this new class will affect those classes transferring, I WILL NOT take it. I can't bare taking spanish again.

Take the math class that you want. Don’t worry about this.

When you transfer, the receiving institution will determine which credits transfer, and as what. Even if they will accept up to 70 credits, that does not mean that they will take 70 of your credits. They might take 70 they might take 0 (rare, but possible) or anything in between. Even if they should decide to award you very few transfer credits, they still might give you advanced placement for your previous coursework, or they may place you out of a requirement entirely. This is especially true in Math and in Foreign Languages where departments often have their own placement exams.
