So I got the regent's interview invitation. But my actual interview with my professor didn't go very well. Can this possibly affect my admission into CAL?

Lets just say this was my first interview ever. and there was a lot of stuttering and silence involved. God, I'm a failure :(

i would say you may have screwed up your chance for the scholarship...But I am almost positive they aren't gonna kick you out because you gave a bad interview.

it's alright. the same thing happened to me. i think that's the primary reason why i didn't get the scholarship. but it's okay, you'll live. try not to think about it too much. it's just going to make you feel worse.

don't worry, you've already been accepted to cal. congratz.

ahh thanks for the input. i guess i'm relieved.

now i'm kinda nervous for my interview.
wangdirty: do you have any tips on the interview?

Haha, you're asking the wrong guy. But my professor asked alot of questions not on my application, though he read it thoroughly. He asked me questions about my plans 10 years in the future. I drew blanks because i had never thought about it. You should get to the interview an hour early as they recommended. Talk with the RSCA Alumni, they're really nice and they help you loosen up and calm down. haha. Also, remember to ask abstract, thoughtful questions, and not just questions found on the CAL brochures. And don't suck like me ;)

"a lot of questions not on your app"? I hope there are no philosophical questions or questions like what's your favorite book, is there?

thanks for the tip, I'll go there first thing in the morning since i'm staying overnight tomorrow

good luck man. my professor gave me a CAL beanie baby because I sucked so much

it depends on the professor, is what i'm trying to say

i've heard cases where the professor would try to engage you in a discussion on philosophy, literature, or something academic in particular. my professor was in engineering and I was a prospective math major so he asked me a series of math related questions. i know someone else who talked about some concepts in physics.

Yeahh! My friend talked to this professor about Heart of Darkness, Candid & other literature works... She's going to major in English and the interviewer was an English professor. She said her interview went great!

aww, I'm sooo nervous now, because I don't know deep math/physics concepts or great literature works.

these are the math questions my professor asked me last year:

why is a manhole cover round?
what would be a substitute shape for a manhole cover?
why does a soccer ball roll?

since i was a dimwit i couldn't answer any of them but they were all related to geometrical and physical concepts lol. basically he was interested as to how i think and my problem solving skills. it's too bad because i was too distracted by my differential equations exam i was about to have two hours after the interview. i really couldn't think clearly :(

^did he mention the answers?

search on wikipedia, there's a very good explanation of it.
I wish i can search wekipedia in my brain...

dude my interview was way rough but if you're in that situation just play it cool and act like nothing is wrong. Those professors can sense fear instantly and they'll pounce on it. But im still disappointed because my professor didn't even get to know me she was too busy asking questions she thought were relevant and trying to make me think on my feet

damn... what kind of professor did you guys get?
My professor was really nice. When he asked questions that made me go like.. "eh... I am not really sure.." he quickly elaborated and simplified the questions. But my interview was short. He probably asked me questions for a little more than 10 mins then I asked him several questions about Cal. Total is around 20 min only...
I am really nervous now though, as I read that some people had long and seemingly auspicious interviews.
