Bad Midyear report (urgent help please)

Okay so im in a bit of a problem. My school decided to give us mocks right after winter break, which meant i had to study for them in the winter break.
The problem was that i didn’t do my college essays and was planning to do them in the Winter Break, so I didnt study because i wanted my essays to be as good as possible (i tried). Anyways i ended up studying the entire IB diploma in 1 week. Yeah the results werent that great compared to my works the entire year.
(im an international student so our school grade reporting isnt like the US)

My original predicted grades were (IB diploma):
Biology HL 7
Math HL 7
Chemistry HL 7
Psychology HL 7
English SL 6
French Sl 6
So in total predicted 40
My mock grades were
Biology HL 7
Math HL 6 (i was very disappointed tbh i got a 5 in paper 1, a 6 in paper 2 and a 7 in paper 3 so it averaged out to a 6, keeping in mind i never got a 6 before)
Chemistry HL 6 (also went down)
Psychology HL 7
English SL 6
French Sl 7 (score got higher)
So a 39
There is a loop hole tho, my school does this thing where they send updated predicted grades
If i do that, i will send the predicted grades based on mocks, but because all last year i had good progress, the predicted grades will remain relatively the same (dk for math tho :(, for chemistry it did, for french i got a higher prediction)
So do i tell my counsellor to send the “updated predicted grades” as a midyear grades instead of mocks? It would honestly look so much better especially because of my higher french grade.
So in total it would be a 41
What do i do?

I don’t know whether predicted scores matter to U.S. colleges. My daughter is in an IB school in the United States and they don’t release that info to colleges. Does your school give letter grades or calculate GPA? Ultimately if you have a choice about which report to send, I would not send the one predicting lower scores. The only U.S. colleges that I’ve come across that offer admissions conditional upon IB scores or successful completion of the diploma, are some of the U of California schools. Most colleges, including T20 schools, don’t make those a condition of admission. I hope this helps. Good luck!

They do in the case of OP - an international student whose transcript grades are based on IB scores.

They do not make it an explicit condition as UK schools do, but all offers to T20, for everyone, are conditional. The difference is the offer to the OP, if there is one, is based on predicted scores.

Regardless, for the overly dramatic (IMO) OP, a 39 vs a 40 well not be the difference between acceptance and rejection. And forget trying to spin a 41; there is no IB superscore. Don’t think you can have it both ways.

That’s very interesting. I’ve researched this issue because by the end of 1st semester senior year, 1/3 of my daughter’s class has dropped the IB Diploma in favor of certificates. For U.S. students, the condition of admission (at the colleges researched) is that they obtain a high school diploma, and that failing to receive the IB Diploma would not affect their admissions standing. It sounds like there are differences for international students for which I was not aware. Thanks for clarifying.

And while not explicitely stated, don’t get a D.

The same would be true for a student like OP. If the predicted IB grade was 6 ans the actual is 5, no big deal. An actual of 2 is a problem.

I just discussed with my counselor, the predicted grades that have been updated post-mock exams have gotten higher, so I am currently predicted a 41.
As I said I don’t know what to send, mocks, or the updated 41. as my midyear report
I have already obtained 2 highschool standardized tests (the IGCSE as in the British teaching system). My school unfortunately does not do GPA so I don’t know what to do.

That wasn’t what I meant. I was planning to send the mock exam grades, but since they were bad as I said above, I don’t want to send them, and instead send my midyear report as “updated predicted grade”

What grades does your counselor say you should send?

she is clueless, she just asked me what grades do you want to send
