Bad SAT 2 scores.

I’m applying to Northwestern University. Im from India. My gpa, ECs and act scores, essays and LoRS are all good, but my sat 2 scores are really bad. I got 670 in physics and 650 in math 2. (Bad test day. School exams got over 1 day before the subject tests.) Should I send in my sat 2 scores or not? I feel that it might not help my application.

*ECs, ACT scores,

When Northwestern says 2 subject tests are recommended that generally means you only get out of it if you can’t afford to take the tests. Not liking the scores isn’t good enough. If you don’t send them I think you won’t get in.

Are you planning to retake the tests? It would be prudent for you to do so. Study in depth in preparation.

I’m retaking it in December but my northwestern ED deadline is on the 1st of November. That’s why I can’t send my December test results.

You could just apply RD instead of ED, and send your December results.

As suggested above apply RD. Those are not good scores for ED.

But ED will increase my chances of admission. It’ll be more difficult if I apply RD.

The ED pool acceptance rate is higher because the recruited athletes are in it and the students competing for the slots are possibly better than RD.

But people have gotten in before by not sending sat 2 scores.
I should apply RD only then?

My understanding is that Northwestern defers a very small (1-2%) number of ED applications. So you can’t expect a second chance with your ED application – to mean if you’re not accepted then expect a rejection. You’re right about the value of applying ED. Nearly 1/2 of the Northwestern class is picked during this round. This said, a stellar application will help during RD. So I recommend you aim for that. Your other scores suggest that with preparation you can bring up the SAT 2 scores significantly.

Thanks a lot! I’ll apply RD only then. Great advice!
